Question regarding I-134 form

For starters, I just want to say that I would be so lost without VJ. There are so many things I have learned from this forum.

My fiance' and I are in the early stages of the process, but I am trying to get all of the necessary documents together as soon as possible. I am a planner, so I am trying to get prepared for the next step. As I was reading through the necessary documents for the interview (which we definitely do not have scheduled yet), I came across the documents needed for the I-134 Proof of Sponsorship. I am sure there are others who can relate, but I am a tad bit nervous since the Philippines does not recognize a co-sponsor.

I am a graduate student here in the states and just started working full-time about a month ago. Prior to my full-time position (which was pretty much a promotion from the part-time job I had), I was working part time and I was a full-time student. Before I started graduate school in January 2016, I was working part-time at the undergraduate school I attended. Needless to say, I am just now making enough money where I am above the poverty line. My income tax returns from 2015 & 2016 reflect my part-time positions and if you based my income off of those documents, then I am wayyyyyyy below the poverty line. However, now, I will be making above the poverty line. (I am still a full-time graduate student and working a full-time job and working on visa stuff and planning a wedding..life is wonderful. :P)

So, I guess the point of this post is, should I be worried about the I-134 form? Should I use a co-sponsor anyways?

Any advice or suggestions would be wonderful!!!

You need only the last tax year so 2016 tax documents should be used. The best document to present to "erase" your low earnings is a letter from your current employer stating your current position and your current earnings. The CO is going to look at the letter and make their decision on whether your current salary meets the income requirements.  So you should be good to go and not worry about this portion of the interview.

Here is the Embassy letter that you need to follow as it list all the requirements that need to be presented at the interview.

Here is a great website to use for the gathering of documents and what is needed and when is it needed to complete your journey.

Good luck. Any questions return and ask.

Thanks for a super quick reply! We haven't scheduled an interview because we are still waiting on NOA2. But, I am just trying to get ahead while I can before the semester takes a toll on my free time.

Information is on the website I gave you to contact NVC once you hear that your NOA2 has been approved. Don't wait for any hard copy or a email copy as you really don't need it to keep this journey moving forward.  The owner is Hank who you probably have seen here helping others.

Welllllllllllll .. that isn't quite correct, USEM does consider a co-sponsor with the K-1 visa within certain conditions .... but in your situation I would not worry on it any.

For the I-134 you only need your most recent tax return & W2, and you are shy some, so what you want to do is include an employer letter and copies of your pay stubs (as many as you have by that time), this should be adequate to cover your current income evidence.

With all that said, since 2014 USEM has not, always, ask for the I-134 & support evidence, still have to be prepared but don't be surprised if you are one of those that are not asked.

I contacted my bank this morning (Wells Fargo) to get the required letter for I-134 and they told me that they have a formatted letter they use for cases like this, however, the letter does not have the total amount deposited over the past year on it.

It does have the date I opened an account and present balance.

Will this be an issue that the formatted letter is lacking the total amount deposited over a year?

I'm going to print all of my bank statements for the past year in hopes that will suffice.

Do not need a letter from the bank or bank statements.. unless you are a new employee and your paycheck is direct deposited to your bank account.  Even then an employer letter and pay stubs will work.  Along with the I-134 and copies of your ITR and W2.     Most times this is not asked for since 2014, but you still have to be prepared.

I am a new full time employee in my office. I was working part time (in the same office) and was offered a full time position about a month ago. My boss is including details about my "promotion" in the employer letter. I just want to cover all my basis and be prepared :).

Totally understand.   Your employer letter and pay stub will be of interest to the embassy more so than bank statements or a letter from the bank ... if the CO even asks for the support evidence.   Keep us posted ..
