K1 After NOA2 Dominican Republic.

Hello!

K1 petition hoping to get NOA2 sometime next month (September), I've been trying to prepare for the next steps to make but the Dominican websites are very confusing so I have some doubts on what is supposed to happen post-NOA2 when you are dealing with the Dominican Republic. If someone who has already been through this could answer please!

Im not going to bore you with a list of the steps I already know.. here is what I am not sure of:

1- after NVC assigns you a number and they forward your case to the embassy, do you submit the form DS-160? or you have to wait until you have an interview date?

2- do you get an assigned interview date and time or you choose it?

3- do you also have to make a separate appointment at the VAC for Biometrics?

4- This Famous Packet 4... Do I really need it? and what should I do if I don't ever receive it?

5- Do I have to send any documents to the NVC or the embassy prior to the interview?

6- my fiance is not planning on attending the interview at the embassy, is it really necessary for him to do so? he is a USC.

7- Is the Police Certificate the same as an: Acta de Buena conducta or Cartificado de No Antecedentes Judiciales??

Sorry for all the questions but I've ready many other posts and the wiki page and these items were a bit unclear for me.

Thanks!

1- after NVC assigns you a number and they forward your case to the embassy, do you submit the form DS-160? or you have to wait until you have an interview date?

Not embassy specific. Definitely submit DS-160 and pay the visa fee after you get the NOA2. Visa fee payment is valid for a year from the date of payment.

2- do you get an assigned interview date and time or you choose it?

Embassy specific. I have no idea.

3- do you also have to make a separate appointment at the VAC for Biometrics?

Embassy specific. According to the VJ consulate info page, you'll be required to attend TWO separate appointments - one for biometrics, one for interview.

4- This Famous Packet 4... Do I really need it? and what should I do if I don't ever receive it?

Embassy specific. Again, according to the VJ consulate info page, only the Packet 4 would be mailed to the visa applicant. Packet 4 is VERY important because it does contain your interview appointment letter and medical exam letter.

5- Do I have to send any documents to the NVC or the embassy prior to the interview?

Embassy specific. According to the VJ consulate info page, immigration forms, supporting evidence and medical forms are to be brought to the embassy while the medical results would be delivered to the embassy upon the medical exam.

6- my fiance is not planning on attending the interview at the embassy, is it really necessary for him to do so? he is a USC.

Generally not necessary BUT it is a plus point at some embassies.

7- Is the Police Certificate the same as an: Acta de Buena conducta or Cartificado de No Antecedentes Judiciales??

According to the VJ wiki page, it should be the Acta de Buena Conducta.

Sorry for all the questions but I've ready many other posts and the wiki page and these items were a bit unclear for me.

Thanks!

My answers are based on http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Dominican Republic&cty=Santo Domingo and http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Dominican_Republic:_After_Receiving_the_NOA2. I am sure some information needs updating so let's wait for DR applicants to respond further :)

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

thank you @KULtoATL,(L) but since most of my answers are embassy specific and Im dealing with my crazy country:bonk:, I was hoping to get answers from someone who recently did the process in the Dom. Rep.

We just finished most of the process in June and July in Santo Domingo, so hopefully this helps you.  I know how frustrating it was, because there was not much up-to-date information about the process there.

1.  We filed DS160 online after receiving NOA2, prior to having NVC number.  You will be asked for the USCIS application number when you complete DS160.  It does not ask for NVC number.

2.  You will register for an account at http://www.ustraveldocs.com/do/ to schedule both your VAC appointment and the interview appointment at the same moment.  You must pay the fee prior to scheduling.  We were able to pay on this website with a credit card, so it was not necessary to go pay cash at Banco Popular.  It is recommended to schedule them at least 3 weeks apart to leave time for medical results (we picked up results in sealed envelope about 8 days after the medical was conducted)

3.  See #2 :)

4.  I don't think there's any such thing as "Packet 4" anymore, or at least, not in the D.R.  We never received any such thing.  The NVC told me they send the file to Santo Domingo embassy electronically.  Sure enough, I received an email from the embassy the following day, telling me to proceed with scheduling appointment (which I had already done 3 or 4 days prior).  You need to take this printed email from the embassy with you for the medical exam!  I don't think that is in any of the instructions, and my fiance had a problem because he did not have it with him.

5.  Nope!

6.  It is not required for petitioner to attend interview, but I wanted to be there with my fiance.  Although not required, I think it helps to add legitimacy to the case, and maybe less likely that they have suspicion.  If you have very strong documentation of your relationship, it is probably less important.  If you don't have much proof/documentation (photos, receipts, airline boarding passes from previous visits) then maybe it is better for your fiance to attend the interview.  Also, it's a very stressful and intimidating day, and a very beautiful moment to share together when you are approved!

7.  My fiance's police certificate that we used is a "Certificado de no antecedentes penales" which he was able to obtain online electronically.

Marc

OMG Mil Gracias!!!(L) this is exactly what I needed!!

I've seen your timeline before and I was wondering how you managed to get such a close interview from the consulate received date.. You just didn't wait for none-one (love the attitude btw).

Now Im just curious how does the embassy gets your email address... I dont remember writing that anywhere in the i-129f... hehehe NVM I just saw you are the petitioner, petitioner's email IS in the form..B-)

And extra THANK YOU for the medical interview-email printing info...

Congrats on the approval!!

@logisticamente, Hey there. I am still a long way to my NOA2 and interview. But just as you were, I am curious beforehand. I saw that you already went through most and are already applying for the next steps into the US.  I am curious, did you follow or everything went as you was answered here by @marc941? any catch or anything differently that you went through? I would appreciate if you could help us out. Also getting the "Certificado de no antecedentes penales" electronically was enough for you? did it need translation on anything? did you go to the interview alone? We would appreciate as much information you could provide. Thank you!

PS. After I am done with this whole process, I plan to do a long write up with what I did and update the instructions provided in the K1 Visa wiki for SD.

Hi, I just noticed you went through the interview and got approved! congratulations!

I read from your post history (sorry for stalking :P) that you went to the interview alone? right? also what about your packet 4  did you need it or how did you go around it? If is not much to ask and whenever you might have the time, can you post a review of your experience on the interview. Many anxious people, like me :P would appreciate that. Haha

Hi!

I did follow everything as it says here.

Something to note is you need to bring a copy of the beneficiary's birth certificate

the electronic version of the certificado de no antecedentes penales is enough (I know it looks kind of unofficial) no translations needed. All your docs should be in english or in spanish for this step.

I went to the interview with my husband. But there were plenty of people there who went alone and got approved. I must say they got asked TONS of questions while we only got asked where we met, how we met, if I was legally in the U.S. while I  was working here, and I think that's it.

they didn't take my affidavit of support (even though is in the list they give you).. they said it wasn't needed for K1s but  I would bring it anyways just in case. (and you need it for AOS anyways.. so it is not wasted time)

Let me know if you have any more questions. Im happy to help

Thank you, I already appreciate it. So just to be clear, you was able to schedule the appointments, even without any notification that it was at the embassy?

yes. but note that you are at risk of not being able to make it to the appointment since you need that notification in order to go to the medical and it takes a week to get the results
