@RachelGreen14, everyday clothing is just fine. Jeans too. Don't worry too much, it is not an oath ceremony.

Kinda of a random question but what did everyone wear or planning to wear for their interview?

I have mine coming up in 2 weeks and I was just thinking that I don't recall reading anything on these boards about attire. Haha...  I get that we should look presentable but is jeans and  nice blouse sufficient?

Thanks guys!

my suggestion is, treating this critical interview the same as any other type of professional interviews. Don't dress like you are shopping somewhere. Remember the first impression is important!

I arrived about 30 mins early for my interview. Most people I saw were very well dressed, many men in suit and tie, with women nicely dressed too. Dress for success!

Business casual at a minimum is the usual suggestion.

Definitely no jeans, I'd say. If you do decide to wear jeans, pick something that is not faded or ripped. I treated this interview as I'd treat a job interview. :) Good luck!

Don't overthink it.  While it's true you should dress nicely and first impressions are of course important, this is not a subjective interview like that for a job.  The adjudicating officer does not and cannot take your physical appearance into consideration.  Focus on your supporting evidence and studying for the tests.

I bet I know at least one person who successfully passed the interview in jeans. Levis model 513, blue.

And BTW he was dressed way better than most of uscis officers there.

Lol :) I never said the IO will reject the application should you wear jeans ;) My point was that creating an impression is very important, it gives them the first impression that you are very serious about this interview. Good for those who cracked it in jeans!

It is generally polite to show up to other people's workplaces in a certain standard of dress, whether it has an impact or not.

Thanks everyone! This is helpful.

I have 2 weeks until my interview. I feel very confident, been reviewing the test questions. I'm very comfortable with them as I knew most of them while growing up here in the US and learning them in civics class, etc... I'm applying as a 10+ year green card holder (I came here as a refugee child) so hopefully my case will go super smooth.

Was my oath ceremony today at the RiverSide Center in St Paul. There was 1000 people there to take the Oath. The time on the notice I received said 9:30am. We had to drive from Rochester, so left at 7am and arrived around 8:30.am. Parking was easy, across the road for $10 and connected via an overhead walkway. The queue for people taking the Oath and enter, was huge, but moved really fast, and we were all seated by about 9:30. People from over 80 countries. They read them all out and you stood up as your country was called.

The USCIS people came around and gathered your letter (which you had to answer a few more questions - like have you travelled overseas since your interview, felonies, joined a terrorist org etc). Then a lady from the Womans Voting League walked us through voter registration, application in your packet (need your drivers license if you have one to register, two other options if you dont). Hand in as leaving. Take a pen.

Judge came in and did the ceremony, and he gave a short speech about his grandmother who immigrated from Croatia. Then they gave you your Citizenship Certificate and you were done.

Judge was available to have photo with, but queue was very long (300-400 people).

Ended at about 11:30am.

Most people made an effort to get dressed up.

I went to thr Social Security office this afternoon, and although they said it would take up to 10 days to move from USCIS to Soc Sec, the guy was able to process it. There was an application form for your passport but for that you are on your own.

Hey all,

I wore khaki pants and a fleece top; I came from work and had on big, clunky boots that had to get an extra screening.

You get screened upon entry, so limit the amount of stuff you're bringing in. I had all sorts of things that had to be run through the scanner...oh well.

On another note, I received notification of my oath ceremony - March 6th - one month after my interview!
