Apparently USCIS doesn't even bother to adjust responses to questions raised by the Congress and Chicago mayor. Everything is good on their side, obviously.

Does it make sense to write a letter to our senators?

And BTW - N-400 processing time at Mpls USCIS isn't the worst: for USCIS in Atlanta it takes one month longer (up to 25.5 months).

I wrote a letter to Klobuchar, got back a canned response.  Here it is:

Quote

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about immigration reform. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.

Comprehensive immigration reform is crucial to moving our country and our economy forward. That is why I have long supported bipartisan efforts to reform our immigration system. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I worked hard to pass a strong, bipartisan bill in the Senate in 2013 that bolsters our economy, secures our borders, and creates an accountable pathway to earned citizenship. It also included the DREAM Act, a bill that I have cosponsored and continue to support, which allows immigrants brought to the United States as children, through no choice of their own, to stay in the only country they consider home. Unfortunately, the House of Representatives did not pass this important legislation.

In this Congress, we must continue working in a bipartisan fashion to enact comprehensive immigration reform. However, instead of moving forward to do that, this Administration has moved in the wrong direction. For example, I have disagreed with its decisions to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA); to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for several countries; and to end Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) protections for Liberians, whose protections date back to President H.W. Bush. I will continue to seek a solution for these families.

Since the Administration’s decision to end DACA, I have worked with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to introduce bipartisan legislation to protect DREAMers and, on February 15, I supported two measures that would have done just that. While neither of these amendments received the 60 votes necessary to pass the Senate, I will not stop working to find a solution to help our DREAMers.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. I continue to be humbled to be your Senator, and one of the most important parts of my job is listening to the people of Minnesota.  I am here in our nation’s capital to do the public’s business. I hope you will contact me again about matters of concern to you.

Sincerely,

Amy Klobuchar
United States Senator

It would have been better if her office hadn't responded at all.

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.

it was a surprise that senator herself wrote back to  you with so ambitious political words. i bet this was not what you wanted. Her office immigration affair secretary usually response to the request like yours and submit to USCIS minneapolis office for more internal case update. In my case, her secretary emailed me that local office had my case cleared from FBI and already placed in line for interview in April, which was 3 months before i contacted senator office.   with this , i at least knew that my case was making progress and ready for interview schedule availability.

@N-o-l-a, what was the wording of your question to Klobuchar?

@marcusa, yes, I've had experience dealing with their office in the past and it was something like yours.

Yeah, it was kind of annoying, but it was 2 months ago.  Maybe Tina Smith would have been the better one.

I wasn’t expecting a case update because we were no where close to average processing times, it was more of a general complaint about the backlog at MSP.

Tina is a junior and doesnt have much influence over USCIS. i suggest you to reach Amy  office again after January.

plus, dont complian how much Msp office has been slow or any negative words in your letter. Focus on why you need to become U.S. citizen so rush? what you can do or contribute after becoming citizen. be more personal. dont complain the government. because the senator is part of the government.

No interest in pulling the "I'm special, look up my case" card.  We had to do that during the CR1 process, but only because we were dealing with some royal screw ups on USCIS's end.  I'd rather save their time for people who need it.

@marcusa the problem is that no you did not :) in my case, for example, I've waited 9 months (yeah, could have another baby), and I'm not even half through the process (have to wait 13 more months; I'm curious if they will add few more years or not).

USCIS behavior - to keep applications for indefinite time - is simply disrespectful. If they can keep them processing for 2 years, what prohibits them from not doing anything at all?

Even when you apply for U.S. visa, you schedule an appointment and you get decision right away. Apparently if you already paying your U.S. taxes they don't have any reason to treat you better.

I remember my experience with I-495 that took 18 months to process, with senator calls/infopass/lawyer assistance etc., and this makes me rather pessimistic.

If there is a need in your case, you can choose to sue the uscis

 H1b ---> EB-1A (I-140) ---> I-485 AOS(Green Card) ---> 5 years --->  US Citizenship N400 application

  • Day 011/16/2017, e-filing N400
  • Day 3069/18/2018,  interview day--passed and in line for oath.
  • Day 332: 10/15/2018, Oath Day

While I certainly share your frustrations, the drawn out processing times are not a vendetta against you or any single applicant. They're indicative of larger systemic problems, understaffing, increased volume, and a handful of other problems.

The idea of suing USCIS (or any Federal entity really) based on slow processing would no doubt prove to be incredibly expensive, foolish, and result in no change for any of the hundreds of thousands of people with pending applications.

Be patient, then vote. :)

if you have a very complicated background prior to obtaining legal permanent resident and your case is severely delayed in processing, lawsuit is one of the consideration.
