well on the plus side they processed more applications (approved plus denied) than the previous quarters 2450 (2018Q2) vs 1851 (2018Q1) vs 2031 (2017Q4). The problem is they are flooded with applications, as are many other field offices esp in the larger cities. According to an article I read, the USCIS is funded by the cost of the applications processing fees. Not so long ago they increased the fees, to supposedly hire more staff and that may be true, but then there seems to be more applications, so there may be a lag while people get trained up. Also, I read an article which talked about the new digital system, supposed to replace the paper system, but it was having some issues and they failed to get the productivity gains hoped for,

Minneapolise office is covering the 3.5 states,but  their  number of case officers are not proportionally matching the case load and demanding.

 H1b ---> EB-1A (I-140) ---> I-485 AOS(Green Card) ---> 5 years --->  US Citizenship N400 application

  • Day 011/16/2017, e-filing N400

  • Day 332: 10/15/2018, Oath Day

my case has cleared  FBI background check since March/April 2018.  based on the average number from the ferum, i will wait for additional 6 months before i have assigned slot for the interview.

Hi there, In the chart I see that you are 'In Line' since 12/26/2017, but here you say that you cleared FBI background check in March/April 2018. How do we determine when the status goes to 'In Line' or when is the background check finished. Our NOA or Biometrics dates are almost close. My current status is still ' We reviewed your Biometrics'. Do not know how the applications are processed. Could you please share your thoughts?

"in line" is widely deemed by applicants themselves as when they finish fingerprint. However, from the perspective of USCIS, you will not be actually  "in line" waiting for avalibale interview slot until FBI has cleared your case.

my senator office had an official answer from the USCIS field office that i had been cleared with background check from FBI. now is in line waiting for available interview schedule assigned to the applicant.

to me ,this is at least a good signal that i am not stuck with FBI. i know lots of long-term pending cases are due to FBI

Has anyone done any walk in ( before scheduled appointment time) for fingerprints at the St Paul or other USCIS offices. If so are there any best practices to keep in mind

yes, you can choose to walk in if it's acceptable earlier than your schedule day!
