WaPo’s Rampell: Arpaio Pardon ‘A Direct Attack on Our Constitution’ and Judicial Independence

On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “All In,” Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell argued President Trump’s pardon of former Maricopa County, AZ Sheriff Joe Arpaio (R) is an attack on the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary.

Rampell said, “If there was any doubt in anyone’s mind that law and order was code for making it easier to harass people of color, this is confirmation. I would also point out that this is a direct attack on our Constitution and on the independence of our federal judiciary. You remember, there was a lot of concern during the campaign about the fact that he attacked a judge of Mexican descent, Judge Curiel, right? … This is so much worse.

Ugh that racist dictator, using his Constitutional authority to pardon and usurping the Judicial branch's Presidential pardon authority.

Maxine Suggests POTUS Pardoned Arpaio Because Trump Part of KKK

“I’m not surprised Trump pardoned racial profiler Arpaio,” she tweeted. “White Nationalists, KKK, & Duke celebrated Trump’s election b/c he is one of them!”

I'm not surprised Trump pardoned racial profiler Arpaio. White Nationalists, KKK, & Duke celebrated Trump's election b/c he is one of them!

— Maxine Waters (@RepMaxineWaters) August 26, 2017

After Charlottesville, Waters called the White House the “white supremacists’ house.”

She has also been leading the charge to impeach Trump, saying that she is “not running for anything except the impeachment of Trump,” revealing she and other Democrats are “organizing” to bring Trump down, and leading crowds in “impeach 45” chants

She is one of the most delusional Congress members we have. It's a toss up between her and Pelosi.

Where was all the outrage when Obama pardoned over a hundred criminals and known terrorists?  Folks that were in PRISON for their crimes, not just encumbered by some silly charges being brought against them.

Consider the hypocrisy for a moment.

The pardon of Arpao was planned before his conviction. Trump may or may not be a member of the KKK, a fascist Neo-Nazi or White Supremacist but he certainly shares a number of their core values and prejudices, and there is a reason why those groups celebrated Trumps win and mixed his Make America Great Again regalia with their own.

Peaky facts I know.

Obama commuted or pardoned primarily non-violent drug charge offenders, not someone who stumped for him while completely ignoring due process and targeting Hispanics. You mad bro?

Non violent?  LOL. Mad that Obama released  many terrorists from Gizmo to countries like Oman and Saudi Arabia?  No.  It was something he felt he had to do, given his heritage.  Not all he pardoned were mild criminals, unless one has their head in the sand.

The guy Trump pardoned wasn't even a criminal who went thru processes to put him in jail.  But all the Obama pardonees were.

ETA:  Why yes, yes it WAS five.  And one or more has already been involved in terroristic planning against the US.

Do you have proof the pardon was planned before the conviction or is it just a conspiracy theory you came up with? I won't even get into the other part of your post because it is nothing more than race baiting. A favorite tactic of the left.

Not quite sure what you are trying to say here.

You can only be pardoned if tried and convicted. no trial, no pardon. I am not aware of any pardons
