can a fiancee be considered a travelling companion

in ds 160 form there is this question: "are there other person travelling with you?" yes/now

now, i am applying for j1 visa and want my fiancee accompany me in a tourist visa-both citizens of two different countries but will apply either in my or in her country. And i will try that we get a group interview (but it is yet to be seen). So, what should i literally answer: yes or now?

also, do you recommend to apply together so our case would look stronger or better to apply separately in our own countries of permanent residence?

the funding org would support a letter for a family member but we re not together officially, so they dont do it, but my fiancee may still use my letter of invitation to apply for use to come with me. so this is the storyline.

She will be judged on her own merits, nothing to do with you, not even the same sort of visa.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I honestly dont know if they will do a group interview for 2 different visa types. ConOfficer (a member here) may know the answer to that. So you can message him or wait until he maybe sees this post, or email the Embassy you intend to apply at and ask them directly.

A group interview may hurt your fiancee's chances because if she is accompanying you and you are staying- they may think she will overstay to remain there with you.

Damara, group application technically is possible coz i filled out the form now for it but you re right its better to ask the embassy since our visa types are different although i am the one who ll take care of her finances during the stay.

you think it would hurt? I thought initially that it would rather boost her chances since we wiuld be like side by side or at least right after each other.

i dont really know i am just confused like heck coz of this issue.

Lots of things are technically possible lol. Because you are filling out the ds online it may allow you to make a group application but when the Embassy gets the paperwork they may be like uhhh no way. 2 different visa types. So its best for you to ask them if its possible- then you can decide if you want to do it or not.
