Whether Students Carrying Their Own Guns Could Have Prevented Massacre

Interesting note for the Rambo wussification crowd: So the shooting happened on Monday, and as I've argued, there's a fairly low probability that a person with a concealed carry permit and a gun would have happened to have engineering or French that early.

I doubt they would have had French at all. I have a degree in French and you never saw the gun-toting crowd in French classes. It was mostly the goatee-wearing, espresso-sipping crowd, or frumpy women who wanted to be teachers. Then there were people like me who were already fluent and just wanted an easy degree. :devil:

First off, when did legal resident aliens get permission to purchase weapons? I thought the 2nd amendment covered US citizens only.

Anyhow, a carrying, well trained student or faculty member could have ended the massacre.

This was an unbelievable event, conducted by an already suspect psychotic. Mind boggling.

It's become obvious that Constitution applies to everyone outside the US and not to it's own citizens that is was intentionally written. Illegals appear to have more rights now than citizens and those here legally! :angry:

One law enforcement official said Cho's backpack contained a receipt for a March purchase of a Glock 9 mm pistol. Cho held a green card, meaning he was a legal, permanent resident. That meant he was eligible to buy a handgun unless he had been convicted of a felony.

Explains a lot.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Oh yeah, that's what we need....more guns in the schools. I know that would make me feel amazingly secure. Last I heard they weren't giving a battery of psychological tests to people who apply for permits to carry guns. I personally know 3 people who have been shot on a campus, and I am only 26 years-old. One is too many.

Would an armed student have been able to pick off the killer at VT? Maybe. Not one of us can say for sure. All I know is I would not feel safe if I knew other students were carrying guns. I would not know the type of training they've had, etc. It would freak me the hell out. I don't want things to go back to the Wild West. Ha.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

How many school massacres have there been there? :whistle:

How many do you think?

* Cologne School massacre, Germany, 1964

* Dunblane massacre, Scotland, 1996

* Erfurt massacre, Germany, 2002

* Beslan crisis, Russia, 2004

There was also an incident where someone attacked a bunch of school kids with a machete; I believe that was in the UK but I can't recall the details.

So...fewer shootings in Europe, but they have happened from time to time.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Until the law showed up... It would be nice to think we haven't taken a big step back. USA 2007 is a little different to USA 1887.

i'd say he probably knows that and won't shoot at something unless he's got a reasonable chance of hitting it and he knows the backstop too. i think saying 20-30 students firing at one time in a classroom is going overboard from what is being discussed ;)

Sure...my DAD knows that, he's 61 years old and isn't an idiot. We're talking about kids here. College kids. Most of them don't have much common sense. I didn't when I was a college kid. :whistle:

Well there goes the military. Time to take the guns away from all those "college age kids" who don't have common sense. :lol:

I wonder why it is that America frequently seems to legislate against human nature, rather than around it?

The guys who did Columbine acquired their weapons illegally. Yet that is an argument against gun control.

The guy who did the VA Tech shooting acquired his guns legally. Yet that too is an argument against gun control.

Do we care about the loss of life, of course. But apparently not enough to do much of anything about preventing it from happening again...
