More than a year ago, Virginia Tech was at the center of a debate over whether students should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on its campus. The gun advocates lost that debate.

Ditto to that. My thoughts exactly.

The truth is that America is unwilling to give up its guns, automobiles, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. All carry a price in terms of lives lost. Deal with it or do away with them. I assure you it is easier said than done.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

It's not like EVERY student on campus would have a gun. But certainly a few competent gun carriers could have helped.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

The typical minimum age requirement (21) for CCW would exclude lots of the “younger” college students. I'm sure a LEO would love to arrest and have an 18-20 yr old college student incarcerated for breaking the law by illegal concealed possession.

I'm only suggesting legal carry.

The LE you talk of did nothing for 32 people at VT.

I agree the LE did nothing. Too little and too late.

The comment about CCW and age was just a bit of info so others would know there are limitations and consequences on legal and/or illegal CCW . Also, there are already lots of limitations on legal CCW in VA. Meaning ... VA has lots of rules that must be adhered to for legal carry and for use of deadly force.

First off, when did legal resident aliens get permission to purchase weapons? I thought the 2nd amendment covered US citizens only.

Anyhow, a carrying, well trained student or faculty member could have ended the massacre.

This was an unbelievable event, conducted by an already suspect psychotic. Mind boggling.

It's become obvious that Constitution applies to everyone outside the US and not to it's own citizens that is was intentionally written. Illegals appear to have more rights now than citizens and those here legally!

Whoever led that debate against the students carrying firearms must feel pretty stupid about now.

Oh please. Do you honestly think FEWER people would have died if students all of a sudden started shooting at each other? You wouldn't have been able to tell who the shooter was. Also, most of the students would miss what they were shooting at since most people are piss-poor shots with a handgun. It's a retarded idea. Completely retarded.

i don't see how you can interpret what he said into "...students all of a sudden started shooting at each other"

we don't need to know who the shooter is, just the ones on the scene do so they can neutralize the threat. shooting a pistol is a bit different than a shotgun, yes, but then again, competency with the firearm is required to be demonstrated for a cch license.

My father has a concealed carry permit in Texas and demonstrated competency with a handgun, but he is still a piss-poor shot. Most people shooting with a handgun will miss if they're more than 5 feet from the target. Now imagine 20-30 students spraying bullets all over a classroom instead of just the one. It isn't hard to imagine what would happen.

i'd say he probably knows that and won't shoot at something unless he's got a reasonable chance of hitting it and he knows the backstop too. i think saying 20-30 students firing at one time in a classroom is going overboard from what is being discussed ;)
