Not sure how best to evacuate the cat if necessary.

Her carrier is a monster-sized metal thing -- ample room, but heavy & unwieldy.

Others have suggested a fabric laundry-bag, or a duffel with holes poked in it for air.

Or, an airline carry-on with the zipper cracked for air.

Not sure how lustily she'd try to claw out of something that her claws could rip.

I'd like something with a bottom where she could hunker down, but that's not automatically 100% feasible.

How about a laundry basket, maybe you could use something for a top she can't get out. Or two small baskets, one upside down on top of the other.

A cardboard box. Have you ever met a cat that doesn't like boxes. Pad it and she'll be ok. The airliner carryon will work, just make sure you have a blanket inside.

Here is hoping you and the T-family can ride this out without incident.

So glad that I got all the laundry done yesterday, as though it were a usual Sunday...

Mama T-B., who evacuated here, apologized for her presence.

I matter-of-factly informed her that here, at the T-Bone Hotel, rooms are paid for in illegal drugs.

She offered me some of her blood-pressure medication.

A little levity amidst the angst...

How's the booze cabinet?

Stocked and ready to ride this out? :jest:

A Texas woman facing flooding from Harvey posted video of a startling sight: two alligators swimming through her backyard.

Arlene Kelsch uploaded the clip to Facebook Saturday showing the water level nearly covering her fence. She pointed out the first alligator swimming behind her home, then showed a section of the fence where the water was high enough for the gator to enter her yard.

“So here’s the top of the fence -- the low part -- where he is able to get into the yard,” she said in the video.

Maybe stuff other things in the carrier (clothes, blankets, canned food etc.) and the cat to carry it all out if it's a bigger cage.
Otherwise yes, a duffel bag with holes smaller than her head.
Collar and leash (if you have it) tied to the bag or cage just in case, cats can get crazy. Fasten it in a way so she can't wrap herself up in it though.
Geez, what a mess.
I don't get the evacuate but no access to roads part, where are you supposed to go if it comes to it ?

Good ideas, si ma'am.  Cat has never worn a collar, and we have no collar or leash.

A mess indeed.

These local TV reporters all deserve automatic Emmys or whatever the appropriate award.

When the entire freeway system and most neighborhoods are under water, it's a pro forma response, sadly.

I do suspect great rage afterwards, and some local elected officials' heads will roll come November.

Good in theory, but rather unstable if they're taped together with a lot of jostling around.  Thanks, though, si man.

I don't drink (for sheerly logical everyday reasons); Mrs. T-B. has the usual half-bottle of screw-cap Manischewitz Concord Grape in the refrigerator.  I just hope that we have a continuous power innage and that the air conditioner keeps functioning.

TBone don't tell your wifey about that though.

Mrs. T-B. is used to industrial-sized boa constrictors & anacondas from having lived on the edge of the Amazon jungle in Ecu, si ma'am.

However, you're exactly right -- snakes of all kinds, alligators (who gotta alligate), and fire ants can be anywhere in the water.

Haven't heard reports of any attacks yet, but those are probably too much of a side story given the greater action.

Heard on the news some interesting information.

The U.S. Coast Guard is normally strictly prohibited from working after dark.

This is for their safety and that of those whom they seek to rescue.

However, the crews here have been given a waiver and have been working deep into the nights.

Part of a great Federal response.

A county constable said that he & his men have been performing rescues from sunrise till 3 a.m. all week.

He also said that he/other officials absolutely couldn't be as effective without so many volunteers.

Guys (chiefly redneck sorts) are coming from all over Texas & Louisiana to help.

When they're interviewed, they're obviously selfless, generous, loving souls.

Night's final reconnaissance report, see man:

Rain had relented for a while but has picked back up, coupled with 25- to 30-mph winds.

Even given that, the water is "only" about one yard up our (thankfully rather long) driveway.

I believe that we'll make it through the night with a dry casa.

Weather radar forecast seems to show the rain letting up sometime tomorrow on our (southwestern) side of the area.

This might be as early as 3 a.m. (if I saw accurately) or as late as sometime in afternoon.

If it's earlier vs. later, we might dodge the bullet.

I hope that our power innage holds up for further reports.

Sincere gracias for everyone's concern & prayers, gracias men/ma'ams.
