We could still get out the back door (and, right now, the garage) and slosh toward any necessary rescue.

Hope OP and TBone and family are still dry in the house,  the scenes on TV of the flooding are horrendous.
How devastating this is, I can't imagine ......babies going without food, cold and wet....still so many out there needing to be rescued.
Ordinary people with boats helping everyone they can for hours.

Entire street is flooded, but rain is "lighter" (relatively speaking).

Water is just past the sidewalk, perhaps 14" up driveway, but the slope is really fighting it.

TV weather guy suggests perhaps a little relief from the rain in 24 hours... will check this again.

 

The Federal, state, local, and individual response to this is phenomenal, truly.

The wild card to all this is how long we'll maintain a "power innage," definitely.

Things on our second floor would get uncomfortable in a hurry without A/C.

We lost power for about 90 minutes in early afternoon.

Fortunately, we're apparently near an important transmission station and are on the same grid as the Fire Station.

In the other house, little over a mile away, I was 6 days without power after Ike.

Not sure how best to evacuate the cat if necessary.

Her carrier is a monster-sized metal thing -- ample room, but heavy & unwieldy.

 

Others have suggested a fabric laundry-bag, or a duffel with holes poked in it for air.

Or, an airline carry-on with the zipper cracked for air.

 

Not sure how lustily she'd try to claw out of something that her claws could rip.

I'd like something with a bottom where she could hunker down, but that's not automatically 100% feasible.

So glad that I got all the laundry done yesterday, as though it were a usual Sunday...

 

Mama T-B., who evacuated here, apologized for her presence.

I matter-of-factly informed her that here, at the T-Bone Hotel, rooms are paid for in illegal drugs.

She offered me some of her blood-pressure medication.

Maybe stuff other things in the carrier (clothes, blankets, canned food etc.) and the cat to carry it all out if it's a bigger cage.
Otherwise yes, a duffel bag with holes smaller than her head.
Collar and leash (if you have it) tied to the bag or cage just in case, cats can get crazy. Fasten it in a way so she can't wrap herself up in it though.
Geez, what a mess.
I don't get the evacuate but no access to roads part, where are you supposed to go if it comes to it ?
