They learned a lot from the response after Katrina which was inadequate. The rescue and containment is only one part of this, people will need shelter, food and clean water. The flooding is going to be extraordinary.

Great fotos (Spanish spelling) from IAMX, see man.  The second map is probably all the flooded intersections, which is all of 'em.

 

Anyone interested can visit www.abc13.com for local coverage; not sure if it's live broadcasting like on the real television.  If it is, it's like a horror movie that you want to stop watching but can't.

 

Even some emergency shelters have flooded...

 

Tornado watch for a multiple-county region till 2 a.m. Monday.  Continuous tornado warnings all throughout the area.

 

At our casa, there's been about an hourlong break in the rain.  The small lagoons in the back yard have sunk down, which is a good sign.  However, it has clouded up and the breeze has resumed.  Won't be long before another band of incessant rain strikes.

 

Unconfirmed rumor that our 'burb will soon cut off water, but I'll wait until confirmation before overreacting to this.

 

Just got recorded phone announcement that Mini-B.'s skool district is also canceling classes till the day after Labor Day.

 

Rainfall total so far just in our 'burb = 17.97 inches.  This pales in comparison to the 25-in. totals so far elsewhere.

 

Really appreciate everyone's kind and intense interest.  It shows that CEHST participants can drop their swords and show their real selves.

Amiga of Mrs. T-B.'s from down the block called nervously.

Her 19-year-old daughter was experiencing a severe upper respiratory infection with fever.

It had worsened since yesterday, when all clinics and store pharmacies were still open.

I had an extra bottle of oral amoxicillin that's now hers.

It's hoped that she'll start feeling better in 24 to 36 hours.

This makes me feel better about being unable to perform high-water rescues, si man.

Big sinkhole wiped out an important interior highway in a southwestern 'burb.

Something like 125 tornado warnings during the last 2 days (few actual touchdowns, thankfully).

Still another 2 feet of rain possible after the himmicane doubles back and passes right through the city.

 

However:

TV news has included many warm-hearting stories this afternoon/eve.

Shelters, staffed with cots, volunteers, and donated food/clothes/linens.

Private citizens (chiefly rednecks), in their own boats, cheerfully rescuing family after family.

Precinct Constables who've been up for >24 hours straight, working side by side with their crews.

People at the city/county emergency & Flood Control centers, working intensely and nonstop.

Waterlogged TV reporters, who probably haven't had anything to eat, painting pictures for us over 16-hour shifts.

Approx. 800 people now stranded at both airports being treated with generosity & kindness.

Someone also says that a bunch of NYPD officers are headed down to try to help.
