Hello,

My wife had her visa interview scheduled for 8/25/17. She went to get her medical examination done in Islamabad, Pakistan on 8/20/17. They told her that her examination results would be available by 8/23/17. I was there in Pakistan with her until 8/18/17 but had to return to the US as my summer was ending and classes were ending. I am a medical student.

The clinic called her the next day telling her that her chest x-ray might be showing that she has tuberculosis (TB). I was there in Pakistan with her for a month, she had no symptoms; perhaps they suspect inactive TB. They asked her to come back to the clinic for further testing where she would have to go into the clinic for three days in a row and provide mucus samples for TB testing. Mucus testing for TB is done for active TB, however, my wife has ZERO symptoms of TB. The original cost of the medical examination was 24000 PKR (approximately $240); they asked for an additional 8000 PKR (approximately $80) for the mucus testing. Additionally, they contacted the embassy and had them cancel the interview date without telling my wife or getting her consent. Furthermore, my wife observed the clinic do the same exact thing to the 2-3 patients who were ahead of her in line for US visa medical examinations. The mucus testing for TB takes anywhere between 1 to 8 weeks, they are telling my wife 50 days approximately.

Has anyone else experience this? What do we do? It is extremely common for those in any authority in Pakistan to extort money from others in any way they can. I cannot help but wonder if there is some foul play to squeeze more money out of people as they told multiple other patients the same exact thing in front of my wife.

Could we get a medical examination done at another approved clinic? How would we do this though, since the interview letter required for medical examinations that my wife has is dated for 8/25/17 interview. This date would pass by the time my wife is able to get to a clinic in a different city, even if that's possible.

Any suggestions or information here would be extremely helpful as I am at a complete loss.

Thank you for reading.

very common to show spot on lung s that indicate TB in this country

and yes, some places like to be paid under the table but did someone ask for money?

be concerned that she may have TB and get treatment /in early stages the treatment can be successful

this is why i paid for full medical exam on my husband before getting married

not just the simple testing but a full exam

Mine medical was the 18-aug-2017 and mine interview date was 5-sep-2017 but because of medical issue they postpone my interview and they make me wait 48 days after TB tests and thank to GOD my result was negative so i reschedule my interview on 17-oct-2017 and i was stressed and panic because of this situation so i visit my doctor and an immigration expert also so i realized that our nation have very common in TB infection that's y if they find out little doubt in Pakistani's chest x ray they ask for more tests only for their satisfactions otherwise doctors can tell by your face and symptoms or blood test is enough to know is it active or not and also as per my research 50% of Pakistani population have that dots in lungs but its just not called TB it could b from any other past infection or nothing but we have to go through this 50 days panic process

If they suspect that she has TB then they will have her go through sputum culture test. You should get the result in 48 days at Aziz Medical Center. They will immediately within a day or two carry her TB results to the Embassy and the Embassy will send you a new interview date with a day or two after receipt of the report. Usually the interview date is within the next 2 weeks because you got priority. Your visa will be valid for 3 months instead of 6. It is advisable that you accept the visa and fly to the U.S. in that time frame. Do not argue!!!
