Mortgage application using extension letter

Hi, I submitted application for removal of condition in Feb this year. I know it will take about a year before I get the new card. USCIS is still working on July cases. Well I just applied for a mortgage. I'm in the process of closing the house soon.my file was approve with underwriting. The mortgage is only on my name since my USC husband has recently changed his job ( not on the same line of job he got last year).

In order to close for the house,y lender needs my GC. I submitted the expired GC together with the extension letter. However my lender said they can't accept the extension letter. They need unexpired GC. W

Anyone experience this? Can someone please help

Chances are I'll be denied too?😢😢😢

everything looks on my mortgage application. I got a car loan last year even without my GC. My GC took so long to arrive last year. But I was granted for a car loan, I just showed my driver's license card. But I know mortgage is harder than getting a car loan.

I haven't experienced this (yet) but a lot of corporations and government offices (dmv etc) who won't accept the letter (even though they should) WILL accept a passport with the I-551 stamp. Make an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and explain the situation and most officers will give you the stamp, which is effectively a new, valid green card.

That should satisfy your lender.

Let us know how it goes! (And good luck!)

That's great news!

And thanks for updating so we know how things turned out -- it's so helpful for future VJ'ers in the same situation who may stumble across this thread in the future looking for advice.

We're are probably going to be in the same situation as we are building and plan on closing Dec/Jan by that time his GC will be expired as well.  He did just start a new job and the letter was excepted, but that could be because his GC isn't actually expired yet and don't know how lenders handle it. Could you let us know how yours turns out, and what you did?

We're also thinking about doing the info pass appt, but don't know if they'll do it now since technically his GC has not yet expired.

I heard it won't be an issue if you are dealing with one of the major bank (citi, wells, chase, or BAC)..local bank or small lenders will make this as a big issue. I think they will accept your letter since it won't expire until next year.

if I consider 1 year from date of letter, my letter will expire 10/11/17 . The letter just states residency is extended for 1 year. I just hope the underwriter will believe that extension is for an year from GC expiration. If they make issue then I am forced to get the stamp.

This was a condition of my mortgage (US Bank) so here's what I submitted to the underwriters:

photocopy of my expired GC,

photocopy of the extension letter,

a cover explaining that although the GC is expired my residency is permanent and I filed to remove the conditions of my residency on mm-dd-yy and what the USCIS current processing times state

a screenshot of the USCIS processing times, with the current time highlighted

a copy of the USCIS webpage which shows the process for having conditions removed

They accepted this as proof of residency.  I've attached a screenshot of the letter I sent with personal information removed.  59d6a26a70b2f_GCconditionsletter.PNG.19cf0ba1fb161dc1ab6d3adab9594cfd.PNG
