What you're feeling is normal.  You've been in the US only 10 months....you are experiencing culture shock, separation from your family and friends, a completely different lifestyle, different cuisine, and adjusting to a new marriage and settling into your new home on top of all that.  Add into that all the stress of dealing with immigration now and in the future.

 

I've been living in the US for 12 years now, and there are times I still feel out of place here.  I feel for you.

@GandR sometimes when I get really homesick, I'll go search out groceries or country-specific foods....I'm sure if you google, you'll find small Philippine groceries/ingredients that you are familiar with, or a ethnic restaurant in your area---a taste of home, so to speak.  Food is a big part of culture, and might help you?

 

And of course plan a vacation later on down the road back to your home country...I'm sure your husband won't have a problem with taking a trip there.

It really took me 3 years to feel like I didn't hate everything about it here. I feel like this is home now, but I still have days where I want to pack up and get out of here and never look back.

Yes, find some activities to do, something you care about and are passionate about so you feel like you are using your time wisely. Also, try and make friends and hangout with as many people as possible. There might be some immigration groups for your area you can join on facebook, and if not, you could create one!

Check with your local public library.  The main branch is probably best.  They have all sort of classes and resources.  It was all free and they even gave us a free bus pass.  When my husband first got here we signed him up for English classes.  He met new friends right away.  No one from his home country but other immigrants.  I talked to my coworkers and found out there are alot more Jamaicans here than I thought and once they knew my husband was from JA they started inviting us to all kinds of events.  They told him about Jamaican food stores I never knew about and I've lived here my whole life!  He now has his own group of friends that he hangs out with.  Have your spouse talk to people, friends, and family you may find new friends that way too.

 

If you have a work permit call a temporary service.  Manpower is a big one here. My husband filled out an application (online, so I could help him).  They called him within a week, had an interivew, and got him a job the next week.  He's been working for 3 months already.  He met new friends there also.

Before we started our K1 process, I was the one living abroad. I was in Argentina for years, and it took at least a year and a half to get adjusted. After that, I'd have low days or times of the year that would trigger homesickness. Like someone mentioned above, food items from your country helps. I also joined a few expat discussion groups, and talking to other US citizens on there was really comforting. It gets easier; just give it more time. ❤️
