Apologies if I'm being dense!!

I understand that it takes 4-5 days to get medical results to embassy.

Does this mean two separate trips to London? Or is it viable to schedule interview say 5/6 days after medicals

I'm just trying to figure the logistics, especially as I will be bringing four of my children who are on the application. ( And we are in Scotland!)

And it's best for all five of us to be up to date on vaccinations as per the list? Most of my children weren't vaccinated..

Thanks!

If you're able to stay in London for up to a week, then I would say that you'd be able to do the medical(s) and interview in that single trip (for example, medicals on a Monday, interview the following Monday). However, there's no guarantee that you will be able to get the interview date that close to the medical - when I went to schedule mine, there was nothing available for a whole month after my medical date. You can certainly try to arrange things to happen in the space of a week, but be prepared that you may have to do things separately and further apart.

As for the vaccinations, it will definitely be cheaper for you to get everything up to date before you go. From memory , they charge around £85 per injection in London, so that will be quite costly for all 5 of you!

IF ANYONE ELSE HAS MORE ACCURATE INFO ON THIS POINT, PLEASE SHOUT UP: Another thing to bear in mind is the time for the kids' MMR vaccinations to be completed. If they've never been vaccinated, I think they will need to have 2 doses of the MMR vaccine(s), and I also think that there is a certain amount of time required to wait between the two. I seem to remember that you can get the first one done in the UK and the second one done in the US, but I strongly suggest looking into that in much more detail than my memory is able to provide at this point!

I hope that helps a little.

That helps tremendously...thank you. I will explore all the vaccinations now.

As for the appointments I guess we will just need to wait and see nearer the time whether we have one longish stay or several trips.

Feeling daunted at yet more layers of expense but for this far....

Thank you

Get all the jabs done at the local surgery, you can get going on that now.

Hey Helen,

I also travelled from Scotland, if you have any questions about the route I took, please feel free to message me! I went up and down on the same day, two separate times, a week apart! Although it was exhausting, it was cheaper than staying in London for a week! My additional vaccination which was a Tdap that I got at the medical in May, was £45 but the prices may vary depending on what the vaccination is, so as @NatO23 has said I would highly recommend getting all of these completed prior to the medical! :)

Good luck!!

Based on someone who previously posted in this forum who had three kids, her difficulty was booking a medical exam block for four. Easier to find one slot open here and there. So her medical appointment was a little further out than singles experience. Probably the same will be true of your interview.

Something to keep in mind...you have to meet US immunization standards which differ from the UK.  Some practices will say "you don't need that" because they are going by UK lists. Know before you go exactly what jabs will be needed for you to get a greencard.

Scroll down this page for a chart broken down by specific ages. https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume8-PartB-Chapter9.html

With four kids, I think that will be helpful to you. Notice it is not flu season so don't worry about the flu jab. Also varicella vaccine is not commonly available in the UK. At your visa medical exam if you tell them you and kids have had Chickenpox, the varicella jab is waived.

My son had all of his childhood vaccines but we have had to get the doctors to order in a course of Hepatitis B jabs as they are not typically given here. If you ask for the fast track course, they will have 3 jabs over the course of 8 weeks so definitely try to get it sorted as soon as possible.

Also bear in mind that you need to take print outs of your medical records from the GP which you can sometimes be charged for. My GP charges 25p per sheet so definitely ask about that whilst you are there.

Sally that's most helpful thanks . I'm going to see the nurse today with the list and I have a note of what we have each had so far. Good to know timescales and glad to be starting now therefore.

Also thanks for the tip re medical records. With five of us this is getting busier as we go!

Many thanks

Helen
