I am Australian, living and working in Canada on a work permit visa (IEC, International Experience Canada). Basically, there is no work in my line of expertise in Vancouver, and wish to work in the states. My questions are; Can I apply for a work permit in the states, even though I am an Australian in a Canada? Also, could I get work in Design in America -as this is not a 'specialized skill)? Thank you.

I have just read the requirements to apply for the E3 Visa for the Australian work permit.

I hold an Associates degree, one Advanced Diploma, and another Diploma. Does this mean I can't apply for the E3 visa? I know it says Bachelor as a minimum, but if you hold an Associate you need to show so many years work experience.

If I went to the states as a visitor, and find an employer who would hire me, could I then apply for the E3?

Usually a course of study that would yield a 4 year degree here.  You can have your education evaluated if you want to try to prove that you qualify.  Groups such as   ierf .org will do this for a fee.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Basically it is a H1b for Australians and the requirements are very similar.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Well E3 does not seem an obvious option.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I looked into this option while I was working in the USA on a L1 under the threat of layoff. Lucky for me I kept a job and was reassigned.

Before you get too far down this process I would encourage you to look to see if job postings allow for non-immigrants. For my line of work most jobs said "must have the permanent right to work" discounting H1B, E3, etc.

Tbh...not gonna happen! USA work permits aren't like any other country. Green card thru marriage is almost the only way to do it and unfortunately why it's abused.

Therefore, you have an easier chance to find a USC spouse then a work permit
