There is probably no help to be found here. however, I will try my luck anyhow.  And mods, PLZ do not move my thread, yes it does not pertain, but I am running out of options and places to ask and I need all the help I can get.  My brother-in-law, of Moroccan national, was in Italy illegally traveling.  Using trains as his mode of traveling trying to get to North Italy to Florence.  His destination was only 4 hours away and has now been missing for 4 days.  We are fearing the worst, but are hoping for the best that he has just been detained by Italy's Polizia.  He probably will not use his real name.  Anyone from Italy, who is there now, have any suggestions how we may find out about him or his well being?  Is there a website? Could they put his picture in a database if they do not know who he is? I know it may prove impossible,... the question may seem crazy, but we have not options here.

Thank you for any ones help.

If he will not be using his real name then how do you expect to find him, and why wouldn't he use his real name?

Read the post more carefully... "He is traveling illegally".  I never said finding him would be easy.  Never said it would be peaches and cream.  I asked if there might be a database or something of ppl found.  If you can't contribute helpful information in this stressful situation where we think a loved one could be dead and you just want to be curious, do me a favor and "shhhhh" is my polite term.

I don't know what to say to comfort you---I wish I did.

Just thinking off the top of my head here, so bear with me:

Does he use a credit card/bank card of any sort?  Is there any way the police in Morocco/wherever he resides can ask the bank to release any statements showing where his card has been used/last used?

Is there any way of contacting (from where you are) the Italian police to confirm if he's been arrested?

Do you know if he was meeting up with anyone there/where he was planning on staying while there and have the contact info to reach out to them to see if he's checked in with them at all?

He has been in Italy for a year.  Threw away all his papers when he got there.  (Dream of a better life).  He was on a cash basis.  He had nothing on him.  He was hopping trains to get to Florence.  It was only a four hour trip but never made it.  My stupid idea was don't they put pics in data basis like here if they have an unknown person?  To identify them.  I'm sure I'm asking plenty of stupid questions, but when you think your family member has befallen a bad fate or is either, you know, you do anything, ask anything to try to find out anything.  And yes I'm sur no one has the magic answer.  Just not sure how things work over there.

Hire a private detective in Italy......You are grasping at straws, unfortunately.......

Good Luck...I hope you find him in good health.

More like grasping at toothpics.  But it was worth a try.  Anyway, a private detective will just steal your money.

The Italians are not exactly known for their bureaucratic efficiency and they have hundred of thousands of migrants to deal with.

I suppose if something particularly weird had happened it would attract publicity.

Best bet is if he has a cell phone and you could locate him through that.

Have you contacted the train system authorities?  The police?   A private detective might be the only way to trace someone who was so determined not to be tracked or legal.

Check on CCTV footages in places you think he might visit like public transportations, malls, you know, places that tourists frequent. Most likely there are CCTVs installed in almost all corners of those places.

Also, try this site. It is from Interpol and they have a part where Yellow Notices are posted. Yellow Notices are for the Missing Persons. Here is the link: https://www.interpol.int/notice/search/missing

Hope this helps. Praying for his safe return.

I have sent an email to the police.  I have not heard from them yet.  They would have received that email about 8:00pm their time.  I am sure am illegal Moroccan would not be at the top of they're priority.  I didn't think of the train authorities, I will attempt that, thanks.  He does has not cell phone.  He had nothing.  Just the clothes on his back I'm sure.
