Marriage Validation in Morocco

My husband arrived in the US last month on a K-1 visa and we recently got married. I was looking at the Moroccan Embassy in Washington DC's website and I came across a page for validation of a non-Moroccan civil marriage. The process seems simple enough, but is it something that we actually need to work on right away? If we choose not to do this, or do it later on, would it have an effect on future plans (kids? visiting or moving to Morocco?) I would appreciate any insight and experience with this process. ^_^

Here is the webpage I am looking at: http://www.embassyofmorocco.us/Marriage.html

This is a Moroccan requirement and not a requirement for the US Government at all. So you can get married and at a later point in time after you complete the AOS process do the validation of civil marriage. The key thing you guys need to do NOW is get everything together for the AOS and file for it. I would not worry about validation until the AOS is complete plain and simple.

Edit. Congratulations on getting Married.

AOS is definitely the higher priority for us. I've collected most of the required documents and I just need to do one last overview. I plan to mail the AOS packet out by Friday. I just want to make sure that our marriage will also be legally recognized in Morocco. Thanks for your advice.

We are doing it. And I am hating it, we are having to get the molhak docs ready and hubs has lost his Moroccan ID card so its throwing a wrench in our plans. We are doing it because it is a personal choice for us and a very important one, and one that you would need to do if you ever want to live in Morocco on a spousal visa. It won't affect children, your kids can be registered by just having a Moroccan father. It allows you guys to get a family book as well, again if that is important to you.

You can do the process in Morocco as well but who knows what insanity that could be to accomplish

We have been married 3yr, we did not bother with it til recently. You finish the process in Morocco from what i understand, by going to the family court there. You are only applying for the molhak which you would give to the court.....so it isn't fully complete til you take that paper back home.

@sparkles_ that sounds really frustrating...do you know if you have a certain amount of time to finish the process in Morocco after filing the paperwork here? My husband has his Moroccan ID card and it's still valid for awhile, so I guess we might as well get started soon. I don't know when we will be able to travel to Morocco to complete the process since we are still waiting for the green card and/or the advanced parole to be approved.

I never asked if the form has some type of validity period to file with the court, that's something I need to find out.

Its only frustrating because he has to appear in person for a replacement ID card, and we live about 6hr away. They keep saying that it's too bad, so sad, show up anyway. Smh.

We have been married almost 4 years.  We haven't done this and have no interest in it.  When we travel to Morocco we take a copy of our Islamic marriage certificate to show to the hotels or people we are renting houses from.

Does the Islamic marriage certificate have your names . Witnesses names . Signatures and the amount of money that your husbands gave you "Mahr"?

If Hamid is religious, then you should do what Mehdi did. It'll have an important religious value and will help you prevent some problems in the future as mentioned above (hotels etc).

We did talk about having a religious ceremony, but now that we are legally married by court law, Hamid changed his mind and doesn't want to pay for a religious ceremony. (One mosque was asking for $500! Some others were more reasonable). :P

I feel like we will have the ceremony one of these days though, just to have a certificate in Arabic so we won't have any issues in Morocco.
