Interview Prep and Backup

Hi All,

Got about a month until my wife and I's green card interview. Some questions for the group....

1. As the sponsor, do I need to refill out the I-864 Financial Affidavit or can I just use the one we submitted with the I-485 a few months earlier? (Obviously will get more current pay stubs and letter from my job)

2. What exactly does "All documentation establishing your (my wife's) eligibility for Lawful permanent Resident status"? We are going to bring all the basic stuff plus the evidence of a bonafide relationship. What else are we missing that they are requesting?

3. I failed to make an exact copy of everything we submitted in the initial AOS application (missing a copy of the check, the table of contents letter with signature, the passport photos). Will they ding us for not having exact backup? Shouldn't they have all this already? FYI, I have copies of all the other pieces (I-485, I-765, I-131 tax docs, pay stubs, marriage cert, I-94, I-797 NOA 2, birth certs etc...

4. Should we dress up in "professional" work attire?

5. I feel pretty confident that my wife could handle the questions, but if I wanted a translator do they have to be "professional"? In other words, can I get one of my bilingual friends to act as the translator?

Many thanks.

In the letter that I got for my own interview, it says 'unless already submitted', so if you already passed it in the AOS packet (which I am sure you did), you do not need to bring a new one anymore for the form I-864.

If she's already got her EAD/AP card, you guys may bring that.

It is advisable to have a backup of everything bec you never know if they are going to lose it in the process of checking and verifying your application, however, in the letter which you will get (if you haven't already), you will see that they have this note 'unless already submitted' at the end of some requirements. It means there is no need to bring those if you already included them in your AOS packet.

Just wear decent clothes.

No shorts, no tank tops, no flip flops.

There is no need to wear coat and tie or something formal.

In the letter I got, it says "If you do not speak English fluently, you may bring an interpreter." So yes, you can have your bilingual friend come over. There was nothing mentioned in the letter about a professional one or a licensed one if there is ever such a thing.

I am having mine on Monday. :)

Best of luck to both of us! :)

Could be a lot of things tbh. Just bring everything you can think of, for example the NOA2 from the i-129f petition, your marriage certificate, the passport with the K-1 visa in it, the i-94 records showing legal entry etc - all of these things together plus many more could potentially been seen as proof of eligibility for LPR status.

I adjusted from a K-1 myself and had my interview in July, all they asked for was me and my husband's ID and passport (I had to show both my old passport with the visa in it and my new passport that I have in my married name), my SSN and my birth certificate. That was it. No affidavit related documents, no proof of bonafide relationship, no photos, nothing.

I know it can differ from office to office, and from IO to IO, but as a K-1 adjuster you don't need to worry about much. Just bring what you have and the interview will be smooth and easy.
