My wife arrived to the US about 6 years ago.  She has a Vietnam passport and a 10 year green card. She is planning to return home for the first time.  What items are needed for her to enter Vietnam and re-enter the US?

passport & green card, assuming she is not staying longer than 6 months.

If she has had the green card for long, she should apply for citizenship. It solves a lot of problems. It takes like 6 months so she can even apply before traveling, as long as she does not do the oath ceremony before leaving (because she would need a US passport and it might not be ready on time for the trip).

Yeah. By the time of my wifes 4th year anniversary she was a citizen. Also a passport can be expedited and arrive within a couple of weeks but it costs a lot more.

What? I think you are confusing something.... green card is not a passport and is just a resident permit. You can't enter a country just on a green card alone.... assume a Vietnameese enters on a green card and applies for a Vietnam visa, what document that visa would be glued into??? Vietnam passport? ROFL unless I'm absulotely clueless.
