Hello Wonderful People;

My husband and I filed November 2016 for our ROC.  We are considering moving from California to Texas.  Has anyone else changed their address while waiting for an approval?

Have any of you experienced this? Would love to hear how you went about doing it.

I know there's the address form online... but I've also heard of USCIS not getting the address and continue to send paperwork to the old address....

I want to make sure my bases are covered :)

Thanks,

-M

I think that the only service centers that actually adjudicate are California and Vermont. Your file should stay at California as I think it serves the Texas area.

Removal of Conditions..  TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK

Time to reset the tick tock clock again.   Roll my eyes.

We are moving shortly, didn't realise there was a sponsors change of address form too. Can this be done onine, via telephone or does it have to be mailed?

Hmm I don't know about that but in some cases, they will inform you if they move or send your application to a different service center.

Hi, only AR-11 could be done online and you have to send I-865 form within 30 days of the sponsor's address change. If you are late you have to send this form to avoid any problems in the future. This is what the law states. https://www.uscis.gov/i-865

Texas comes under CSC so your package should stay in the same service center.

However to cover your bases, I'd suggest you have someone trustworthy keep an eye on any mail addressed to you in the old address. Maybe a word to the new tenants would help? I say this because we read stories of applicants submitting their change of address on time and USCIS has still sent mail in former addresses. I don't mean to scare you but it has happened and you should be aware.

I've heard of the same thing happening :/

It's why I want to make 100% sure I cover my bases.

In addition filing AR-11 and I-865, you must also update the address for the petition itself since you already have a pending I-751. As per

https://www.uscis.gov/addresschange

  • Step 1: File Form AR-11 (online OR by mail),
    AND
  • Step 2: Change your address on any pending or recently approved applications or petitions, online OR by phone at 1-800-375-5283. For TTY (deaf or hard of hearing) call: 1-800-767-1833.

From what I've read here, after you update the address via the forms, it's a good idea to do one or both of the following, if you can (#2 only if you live decently close to a service center, of course):

1) call the information line and confirm that they have registered the new address for your file

2) make an infopass appointment and confirm in person

Just filing the change-of-address form, alas, doesn't seem to be enough to be certain that the new address actually gets into their system. Go figure. And best of luck with your potential move!!
