Hi all

Since moving here I was under the assumption I identify as white.

My father is white English and my mother is originally from India but is a British citizen. I assumed origins from India selected white like how middle eastern and north Africa select white.

I filed before the new i485 form came out which asked this info. At the biometrics I selected white. It was only until recently I discovered about also identifying as Asian.

I know I'm technically white, but am I over worrying that I didn't select white and Asian. I genuinely didn't know at the time. My friends here say its fine and its up to a person how they identify?

In future i751 and N400 forms I will Tick both as I know now and at the i751 biometrics.

I think you can self identify however you want, race or gender.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Only way you could be certain is to have your DNA tested, in the mean time go with the flow, gender and race are anyway such fluid terms.

I seem to remember reading an article about people who had their DNA tested and was not anything like they expected. If it was such a big thing then instead of asking you to self identify you would be tested.

They often seem to have an 'other' category which may be far more descriptive for most.

Yeah I bet, there may if been that category but I thought I was checking both by selecting the one at the time. I guess I'll just tick two next time Im hopeful all will be okay, end of the day as my wife and family say I'm still White lol
