Place of birth Different on Birth Certificate and Passport

I received my NOA 1 a few months ago and I am getting ahead start on gathering all the documents need for the next step. I ordered my birth certificate and I noticed that the place of birth on my birth certificate and my passport are different.

I was born in India, and but I am a Canadian citizen. My Canadian passport has the neighborhood I was born in, as the place of birth as opposed to the city. Now I never lived in India so I never knew what the difference was.

The further complication to this is, the name of the neighborhood has been changed (more like modified, as it is similar to the old name) but my Birth certificate mentions the old name of the neighborhood (along with the city) and passport has the new name.

I got in touch with passport Canada and they said this can be changed on my passport. However I was wondering if correcting the place of birth on my passport going to cause any issues as far as my I-130 application goes? As I have travel to the US with a passport with a different place of birth, or should I leave it as it is? If i leave it as it is, will it be an issue?

Thank you

So from what you have said your birth cert / passport are both correct, just a matter of whether it's Town / City right?

In that case i think you do not have to worry about it as long as they are both indicating the place you were born, as on the I-130 form it says "Town / City" and then " Country", I would just pick either one, and attach an explanation letter to clarify this if you have already sent your I-130 package.

I had a similar issue when i submitted, i was born in Hong Kong, which is now part of China, but it was British colony when i was born, i was suggested by USCIS officers to send a letter to clarify this because i can never get a birth cert from China. I would say include a cover letter stating your case number, indicate the issue you would like to clarify, attach the birth cert copy and the passport bio page copy along. I am still waiting for my NOA2 but i think this will do.
