Just tell the truth, show your documentation proving it, and you'll have no worries.

Yes i have it, and it indicates there the 3 days comference. 

There is no such thing as "extending your visa" per se. You can extend your stay in the US provided that it is still within the validity period of your visa and within the time frame granted to you at POE. You can say that you are staying for a few days after the conference to do some shopping or sightseeing.

 

and like the other posters here, the consul will not ask you exactly say "how can you convince me that you will go home etc etc". they will ask you questions related to your work, family, school depending on your circumstances and from there deduce whether those circumstances will mean you will go back home. for a b1/b1 visa they will most certainly ask you what is the purpose of the trip and how long it will be - so you can pre-empt them a little bit that time by answering their question (ie telling them the purpose of the trip, the length) and then say at the end of your answer, that you will be flying back home on so and so date and returning to work / school etc on so and so date. this is by no means a foolproof way, but it will at least give you a chance to tell the consul that you will be returning home (albeit in a round-about way).
