Certified Yoga teacher in India and want to conduct classes in USA

Hey All,

 

This post is regarding a friend of mine. She is a certified Hatha yoga teacher back in India. She has taken many yoga classes all across India (both corporate and non-corporate). She wants to expand her business to USA. She wants to come for a month or 2 to conduct these classes over there. 

 

Can you pls help us with the visa related stuff like 

what kind of visa is required for above requirement.

Is it legellay possible to conduct yoga classes in USA.

Any other related stuff is appreciated

Nope. She's need a work visa but I doubt she has a chance for it.

Hatha yoga (and its lineages) is becoming a very popular style taught in the US...she would be hard-pressed to prove her skills/qualifications are specialized for the purposes of a work visa.

Just to further clarify the O1 visa suggested by Boiler:

 

"The O-1 nonimmigrant visa is for the individual who possesses extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics, or who has a demonstrated record of extraordinary achievement in the motion picture or television industry and has been recognized nationally or internationally for those achievements."

Your friend would have to demonstrate that she is one of a very small percentage of people at the top of her field, to qualify for this type of visa.

I know somebody here on a O1, he is a DJ, so not quite as onerous as it looks. He is well known in his field, not my type of music, I really know his wife. Nice guy.

You would need to talk to immigration lawyers to have them evaluate her chances. It is impossible to do so without a detailed analys of her credits and resume. Many do so for free at the beginning. Also the O1 Visa requires job offers in the U.S. with complex deal memos. It is not only the credits alone.

 

In general YES a lot is possible to come to the USA. If so in her case?... again not possible to adjudicate here.

She will need a work visa to come here and make money. There is Yoga teachers everywhere in USA. Unless, your friend is famous like "Baba Ramdev", there is very slim chances she will ever receive a work visa.
