Hi all,

How can a person prove his previous work experience (from outside USA) to show to american employers? what is exactly needed to be done and shown on the education or work certificates?

should certificates be signed by specific agency or do they NOT look at experience certificates at all?

It depends on the certificates if they matter at 'll for the job your going for. Just use a standard resume to show your work experience unless you are a high level engineer or doctor.

When I applied, the employer never even ask for my former employer's certificate. However, they did an international background check on me to verify what I presented in my resume (criminal, education, and employment). Not all employers require as such but make sure to never lie and misrepresent your resume.

Current timeline:

July 2019 - filed I-751

August 2020 - filed N400

Sept. 2020 - i-751 status "Case Was Transferred to a New Office". Transferred to NBC.

April 12, 2021 - N400 interview in LA passed (with a pending i-751)

May 20, 2021 - I-751 status changed to Approved and N400 status changed to Oath Will Be Scheduled. 🤩

May 21, 2021 - received a call and email from USCIS Los Angeles with my NOA with my oath schedule.

May 28, 2021 - oath taking schedule in USCIS DTLA office. 😍

Thank you, do you mean they check with USCIS ?

Unlikely they check with USCIS.  They will pay a company to do a background check.

I've never been asked for employer certificates.  I just used a standard US resume and listed the previous experience.

Wow , really ? I never thought it that way :o  I thought just to show a work experience certificate signed by former employer, not that a third-party company do the checks for them

Thank you for your help.

It's common for employers to perform a background check, depending on the qualifications you are claiming and the position you are applying for, they may also run an educational background check to confirm e.g. that you actually went to the university you stated etc. For work experience, most likely they will just ask questions at the interview to gauge whether you know what you're talking about and possibly talk to your references.

Thank you, that was helpful :)
