How can one see how big the sun is with salty rainclouds overhead drenching us?

Donnie can.

Back to topic. Did anyone actually view the eclipse? I did for a few seconds with a welding mask didn't  want to take any risks. It was pretty neat.

I didn't...didn't let my daughter either (neither one of us had safety glasses to do so, but she watched a streaming video of it).  I did hear from my father-in-law that he was outside staring directly at it for a good five minutes before his neighbor scolded  him.  Apparently he had no idea that he could damage his eyes doing so.

From what I understand, the danger is that you are able to look at the sun longer during an eclipse than you normally could since it is partially obscured. Staring at the sun can cause eye damage anytime, not just during an eclipse.

I'm waiting for my wife (the only one of us who has a social media account) to tell me when our buddy from Sacramento uploads his photos from his Oregon trip. Prob not gonna happen until Tues/Wed though.

I can wait, while I love stargazing and all (away from the city), this event doesn't really pique my interest a whole lot.

I can understand that---I got more excited about the chance to see these things when I was younger...eclipses, meteor showers, a specific planet being visible, etc.  Now?  Not so much.

I still enjoy it when it is convenient. It seems it's always cloudy for the meteor showers or the best viewing time is 3AM.
