I think what you are describing is the western world, especially Europe. Very few people nowadays would put their life on the line to save others.

History is filled with times when people have failed put their life on the line to save others. What's different about nowadays? nothing.

Actually history is filled with people sacrificing their lives to save others..

The above is proof of that.. That is a 75 year old, old school, professor saving the lives of countless kids by sacrificing his own..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I mentioned the Holocaust earlier - 6 million people killed by a few thousand SS. If even a few of those people had fought back - then fewer people would have died. As to why didn't I don't think there's an easy answer to that question, and I'm not sure how intellectually honest it is to claim otherwise.

Still a fitting quote.... Sad to see people just give up hope. I think Slim is on to something.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

But that does not make my statement false. History is filled will stories of others who have failed to put their life on the line to save others. You claim this is some recent phenomenon. Nothing is different nowadays.

Saying 'y'all' is racist? Or indicative of an ethnic group? Ever traveled to the South? I mean, the South is sort of like an ethnic group, except for how it's not, but I can see how you might think that if you left your brain at home.

Alex is no southern gal.. I have never ever heard her say anything in a southern tone. She was clearly patronizing kaydee457..

Lots of people use y'all on the internet (and irl) who aren't southern; lots of people on the internet who are Southern don't type in their dialect. She's not typing with a Brooklyn accent, either, or a particularly grad student one. I switch codes all the time, so.... look, you gotta beef with Alex, that's fine, but this isn't racism or being patronizing...

She's calling kaydee out on the history mistake, and that might make kaydee look like an idiot, but that ain't Alex's fault.

There are many cases of resistance during the holocaust from the Warsaw Ghetto to the Danes. A better question is why did so few fight back?

sure. Yet apparently Alex has no problem pointing other people's grammar / spelling mistakes. It was more a ###### stir rather than being offended..

Oh duh! I wonder why they didn't think of that? Could it be because they didn't ask you first ?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

One gun can kill more than 100 people. If the 6 million people used a phalanx battle formation, maybe they could overcome the SS.

Well the point was in relation to the concentration camps - take Auschwitz for example. There was a revolt - 300 crematoria workers (who would have been shot anyway at the end of the month) barricaded themselves in one of the crematoria. In doing so they destroyed the crematoria and killed 70 SS officers. Point is - if 300 people could band together to cause that kind of damage, several such revolts would have crippled the SS and made its work simply impossible. Yet, many of the prisoners chose to collaborate with their captors - even acting as 'informant' in return for marginally better conditions. There are various theories about that - but no real answers. It really says something about human nature - there are always people who choose to fight, but a lot simply won't/can't. Logic and reason often disappear in life-threatening situations.

Were the Jews fighting back in the Warsaw ghetto 'macho'? They had no hope but still fought back. I would rather go down fighting than with my face against the wall. Is that 'macho' or a survival instinct.

Im not a coward,

Ive just never been tested

Id like to think that if I was,

I would pass
