wussification?

Daniel

:energetic:

Both are correct. "Wussifying" is the gerund of the verb "to wussify" and "wussification" is the more formal noun. :P

If anything, we need more guns, not less. If other students had guns to defend

themselves with, this would never have happened.

That argument is really tired IMO. After all the paranoia and fear after 9/11 most people (the world over) carry on their daily lives as normal. Why because its a fact of life that things come out of left-field. Why allow terrorists and random disturbed people to change the way you live? Seems to me you're endorsing the idea that people should live in fear.

Moreover, just because guns are legal doesn't mean that someone is necessarily going to want to get one. I can speak for myself on that one...

The worst thing the US can do is end up like many European nations. That is appeasing everyone under the sun, just to keep a false sense of peace..

The title of this thread is really funny.

You got that right....Unfortunately, in this forum there are naive participants that wear their anti-everything as a badge of honor as it's fashionable (as it was during Vietnam) without thinking through the consequences...

Again, unfortunately, those that are the most vocal in this forum; those showering the rest of us with empty platitudes about peace for everyone, bla, bla, bla , happen to be the very same people that enjoy the privilege to so as a direct result of more savvy and realistic citizens protecting their rights to do so.

And so it’s always been, sigh…..

well more guns apparently isn't working......let's just try some control and see how it goes....can't get much worse surely?

I don't like it.... gun control stinks to high heaven. I don't want this country to turn into a

UK-style police state à la "V for Vendetta."

I know...my husband feels the same way...yet I find it kind of disturbing that he has lived here in the UK for the past 7 yrs without the 'need' for a gun in the house, yet when we move back to the US we 'must' have a gun in the house. The closest I ever got to a gun was when he signed me onto a base some years ago....I was all wide eyed..

I think people have this 'false' sense of security. They think they will be a John Wayne in a hostile situation and shot the bad guy. Unfortunately it does not work that way.. While I do not agree with completely banning guns I do think there needs to be more control and restrictions on their use and where they can be carried.

Would even the strictest gun control have prevented the VT tragedy. I do not think so as criminals or anyone with intent can obtain a gain in even the strictest nation with gun laws. On the other hand if guns are extremely expensive or difficult to access this kid may not have been able to purchase it.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I love when people remind us that many people were against the Vietnam War too, as if to illustrate the error of the ways of those against the Iraq war... did y'all forget how that one turned out?

Hard cases make bad law. Cho Seung-hui seems to be in the mold of Klebold and Harris, who, if you remember, were also planning to blow up the whole school; whatever our gun laws are, they shouldn't be directed towards preventing 0.1% of the gun violence in this country, but towards the other 99.9%.

Kaydee - are you now a pop-up troll that you can only respond to topics by bitching about how much you hate 'certain people' while completely ignoring the topic of discussion. What are you - some sort of web-anarchist or something?

Who wrote this #######....Bill O'Reilly?

 --seriously. I like this:

I'm going to get slaughtered for this, and I'll say first off, save it. That's not what this thread is about. All respect and prayers to the victims in VA and elsewhere. I do not condone violence or violent acts, and would prefer a world at peace.

...which of course precedes paragraphs of a) disrespect to the VA Tech victims and b ) lots of condoning violence.

As to the original message of action-film-inspired slurry, I would never teach my kids to fight back against a school shooter. I'd say, hey, I love you, so don't get shot. You want the parents of America to teach their children that they're "wusses" if they don't tackle an armed crazy person?

Just wait for it - but there were actually people on the O'Reilly show a couple of weeks back criticising the UK soldiers for not fighting back against the Iranians who took them captive.

Why are you being racist? Don't you dare play dumb since you criticize people left, right and center about their grammar..

"Y'all" is not a word used by a certain race. Please try to learn a little about the country you live in.

Saying 'y'all' is racist? Or indicative of an ethnic group? Ever traveled to the South? I mean, the South is sort of like an ethnic group, except for how it's not, but I can see how you might think that if you left your brain at home.

Alex is no southern gal.. I have never ever heard her say anything in a southern tone. She was clearly patronizing kaydee457..
