Hi guys,

I came to the US with a K-1 Visa and went to apply for a SSN on the same day I sent my paperwork to the USCIS. By then, my status had changed to "approved K-1" to "pending AOS", which means I had to wait for my EAD to apply for a SNN. Completely my mistake.

I received my SSN a couple days ago and am going to the SS Office to apply for a SSN with my EAD card. Do I still have to wait a couple weeks to receive it on the mail? Or do they give you a temporary one right away? I think I read about that somewhere...

I have a job interview on Wednesday, so I'm wondering how long it'll take for me to get the SSN

You were eligible to receive an SSN based solely on your K-1 status up to 14 days before your I-94 expired. Applying for AoS had zero effect on this.

Assuming you meant you received your EAD, they cannot give you the number the day you apply, but some offices will tell you to come back in a day or two and you will be able to obtain a print-out of the number. It will take ~1-2 weeks to receive the card in the mail.

It took my SSN card seven days to come in the mail. You need your number to fill out W4 documents if hired, so I would let the employer know when it should be arriving in the mail
