You'll just have to look online. Just search apartment sites, like apartment.com

I did that when i moved from Colorado to galveston. The only payment i did was the application fee.

Be very cautious though, houston apartments are around $1k per month, so,  if it's too good to be true,  it probably isn't.

You'll just have to explain your situation to the apartment you will apply at.

AOS from h2a visa, marriage based.

You would only know how possible that would be if you call the leasing office of the apartment and ask. Most US residential leasing offices require a credit and background check. They may require that you come in physically and provide a co-signer since you probably do not have previous credit history and are technically just moving to the US. If you have someone on ground already, they can also assist you with the process

You would be better off staying in one of the extended stay places that have weekly rates. Houston is large and you need to figure out the area of the city where you want to be, neighborhood safety, traffic patterns, etc before you commit to a lease.

Try this http://houston-extended-stay.biz-stay.com/
