Wife is visiting PI. She got a new passport (Philippine )because it was expiring. New passport is still her maiden name. She went to CFO after she got it to ensure she didnt need another stamp like during K1. Was told she was good tp go. I was adamant she go because I have heard many CFO nightmare stories at the airport.

However, Manila Airport says not allowed to  fly, why doesnt your green card match last name on new passport? Being told she must get a passport that matches last name. Being told she must go through the ROM process before she is allowed to fly home. I thought ROM was optional and just if you wanted it. Its not a quick fix which is why we avoided it. Thought she could just get a new passport while visiting and be ok as long as she had a valid green card and cfo (if required).

Some background:

Weve been married and living together since 2013 in America. I mailed her the new green card (second 10 year) after she got there as it had not arrived before her visiit to PI.

Questions: Is it possible in any way for her to fly back on her new passport with her maiden name different than her green card? Is report of marriage really mandatory to be able to fly back and forth or is there another way?

I will appreciate greatly any answers or guidance in this matter. This sight helped immensely during our K1 journey.

Thanks in advance.

Who told her she can't fly back exactly? My wife has flown back from the Philippines with her maiden name passport and then card, she also had a copy of our marriage license with her as well.

Make sure the ticket matches the name on her passport.

BTW  the ROM is not required at all. When my wife flew back we had not done the ROM yet either.

Is your wifes passport the one she had when she got her k1 or has she renewed it and was still allowed to fly?

Same one. She doesn't need anything else but the green card, passport, and marriage license that is it.

I wonder if she gets a new philippine passport in her maiden name if she would have this problem. I wish your answer was yes she using a newer passport instead of original. My wife had no problems either until she got this new one. Thanks again.

As far as I know it was not requested or shown.

So she was turned away while she was trying to fly back to the USA? When she got there did she show them her marriage license as well?

This is not the first time we have heard this. The recommendation is that she should always carry her marriage certificate just for this reason. Email a copy of the certificate and have her print it off and bring it to the airport. I doubt she will have any problems. Also, if you have a problem then ask for a supervisor. Some locals at the turnstyle don't know all the rules and regs. Asked for a supervisor.

My question is why would she get a new passport with her maiden name?  That would raise red flags for me too.  If she legally took your name through marriage, her maiden name is no longer used.  The green card should match the passport or I'm guessing she would have serious issues getting back into the states anyway.
