Speaking of cars, do you have any idea how many people die in car accidents every year? The numbers are INSANE!!! It's the cars that really need to be banned in the US.

Venezuela is definitely a hot button topic. Why else would we find Venezuela inserted into so many threads here on VJ that have absolutely nothing to do with Venezuela??

You really still wanna talk about guns?

How insensitive of me! Talking about guns and completely overlooking the situation in Venezuela.

The left likes to spout off all these statistics but they won't address the fact that most of these shootings happen in victim disarmament zones.

The statistics are true. The numbers are real (as in real-facts, not alternate facts). The damage is also true. The deaths are real.

You can shoot the messenger, and help me prove my initial point.

Or we just accept 40,000/300,000,000 isn't that significant.

If I had to label one part of US culture that looks to be running out of control its opioids. They are saying overdoses are going to be above 60k for 2017. For reference, I think 2014 was 28k. If we have anything to be worried about its this. I could see 2018 reaching 80 or 90k.

So 40,000/300,000,000 is an acceptable number for you, but 60,000/300,000,000 isn't? So where exactly do you draw the line of how many deaths are acceptable (somewhere between 40k & 60K evidently) and why?

Its not the numbers themselves, its the trend. Even a two year change of 14% for auto deaths isn't drastic enough to be alarmed. Gun deaths have been relatively stable. Opioids though have doubled in two years. If the trend continues then it will be a large ratio.

But still, they are way higher than deaths caused by terrorism. Shouldn't we take these as seriously, considering it's an issue entirely under our control.

Well let us know when it hits unacceptable numbers, okay?

I don't get this fear of terrorism. Its insignificantly small.

I guess if you're lucky enough to live where terrorism doesn't happen, sure.

Don't think the people working in NYC thought it was that small.

There has not been a terrorist attack on that scale in the western world for 16 years. If you notice, they are going for smaller softer targets and the US hasn't seen the same quantity as the EU.
