This is why I am convinced that you dont read posts before quoting them and responding to points that exist only in your head. The demonization and hyper focus is on terrorist attacks while simultaneously dismissing the much larger gun carnage because of the precious Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. If you like the risk, fine, but realize that dismissing the danger inherent in firearm ownership is really not a very good idea.

That precious constitution, what a terrible thing to protect.

There's also an inherent danger from offending lefties, yet I still advocate the first amendment freedom to do so.

You think I don't have protection against that? I ain't no idiot here. My gun is out up but easy to get to in case of emergency, and it's in a case that a four year old doesn't know how to use and it has to be cock3d before it's fully loaded, and yes I tried. Sorry to disappoint you but my pistol stays condition 3 at all times.

Your statement was your four year old knew it wasn't a toy. Glad to hear that you have the gun secured. Sorry to hear that you live in such fear that you feel a need to have a gun ready to go at all times. Must be hella stressful.

Recognition that gun carnage is a substantial problem in the US is hardly damaging to the Constitution. Sorry you feel like you need to arm yourself to feel safe and protected from lefties. Must be hella stressful.

I imagine you would be stressed. That's what happens to people that are phobic of guns. Lots of undue stress about conventional weapons and methods of self-defense.

I dont know. How do you think we can get the inner city minorities in the places guns are banned to stop shooting each other ?

Taking away my my magnificent and to be quite honest, splendid cache of scary look guns sure isn't going to help anything

Won't fit the narrowtive of many on here, but while you are busy getting your panties in a bunch about gun deaths, the majority of which are caused by an element that should have already been in jail, ponder this much larger number of deaths in America, and why nothing is being done about it...

Doesn't surprise me at all. Honestly, I give healthcare in the US a D-. I'm not even talking about insurance, just the care itself.

My sister in law ( Republican) homeschools her kids. Reason, she doesn't want a school ( financed by the government) teach her kids things she doesn't agree with. So yes, regardless how you call it it's government interference.if you don't have the funds and you have to work your only option is public schools and voila, we are back at the mercy of the government.

That's what I always said I'd do with my kids. That or a private school. Hell I'll even take a Catholic school, that's how much I cannot stand public schools.

Regarding the OP - I guess that means we should all thank the intelligence community for working around the clock and thwarting many attacks that are planned all the time, so we can sit here and make comparisons of apples and oranges lol. Personally I'm much more concerned about the fact no one out there can drive.

I don't live in fear at all but I do live in a moderately sized city in one of the largest metros in the USA, so I ain't taking my chances at all. As I have said before on here I have a family to protect and by God I will protect them come hell or high water no matter what. That is why I am trying to move back to NC and live out in the country with my family.

I think this post really illustrates the culture divide.  If I have a tyre iron in my car, do I live in constant fear of a blown tyre? Being prepared isn't the same as living in fear.

Even if that is true, it still does not detract from the need of recognizing, addressing, and acting upon the deaths caused by guns. When you look at the mass shootings our country has come to accept as natural, they are all acts of terrorism involving guns.

The US has passed countless laws to address guns.

Federal Laws:

National Firearms Act

Federal Firearms Act

Safe Streets Act

Undetectable Firearms Act

Gun Free School Zone Act

Handgun Prevention Act

Federal Assault Weapons Act (sunset...though still active in some states)

Protection in Lawful Commerce Act.

It really is, especially if you live in an era where run-flat tires are available everywhere.

+1 purely for use of what should be the universal spelling of the round rolling things on our cars.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

But we still have an endemic problem with gun-deaths. Should we stop the dialogue because laws were passed?

Current trends indicate an overall reduction in violence in the US since the 1990s. I really don't know how else to put it.

I think you're missing the point.

If we are willing to accept that we live in a country where 8,000+ people die un gun-related incidents, should we bother with terrorism, that doesn't kill nearly as many?

Are we exacerbating the issue with terrorism, and making something out of nothing?
