So what would you call those who perpetrate the majority of gun deaths in America today?

It is a little silly to call perpetrator's of gun violence terrorists since terrorist is a definable word in the English language. It appears to be an attempt at getting around the original argument about gun deaths, and injuries, in the US completely eclipsing terrorist attack deaths and injuries. Then adding medical deaths to completely obscure the discussion about lack of concern over gun carnage being very much tied to being overly concerned about terrorist attack carnage.

Kind of silly to say all three should not be of any concern, they should be. But gun carnage is most similar to terrorist attack carnage, medical deaths are a completely different issue with zero comparison beyond deaths or injuries.

Being completely blase about gun carnage, while hyping fear of terrorist attacks is the focus of the discussion.

Well, we can agree on that, for sure.  Terrorists are the ones using guns to kill people.  Guns are not the problem, they are just the tools used by the terrorists.  People who do not respect the lives of others, i.e. terrorists, are the real problem.  (You kind of negated the theory that there are less terrorist deaths than gun deaths by saying that those committing murder with guns are in fact terrorists, but that's ok.  I think we are saying the same thing from different directions.)

Either way, it makes the problem more salient, doesn't it? Regardless of what we call, we are facing an issue with deaths and guns. Shouldn't we show the same level of concern that we do towards terrorism?

Yes.  We should, and we do, in fact.  That's why police risk their lives every day in this country, to combat the criminals that would use guns to terrorize innocent people and war among gangs.  Are we doing enough?  It appears not.  But the many of the people who decry gun violence are some of the same who say that there are already too many people in prison.

Private sellers at gun shows, don't need to run a background check, only licenced dealers.

You must have not been to a gun show in the last couple of years. I say that because a vast majority of gun show dealers will not sell you a gun without a background check because if you do something with that firearm then that will be on them as well. Do you have any firearms, if so what? Whatever law in effect still does nothing to negate the fact that people sell firearms to other people everyday through private sells.

1). I'm willing to bet you have never actually attended a gun show.  Or, if you have, you have never actually purchased a gun there.  The requirements to purchase a gun are the same at a gun show as they are at any other store that sells firearms.  An in-state driver's license and a background check yielding no criminal record.

2) Anyone can get married, have kids, drive a car, smoke cigarettes, obtain illegal drugs, pilot a boat, etc. without training.  Training is available (often for free) for anyone that wishes to become a more responsible gun owner.

3) What I hate is how people (who supposedly don't hate guns) are willing to spout off lies and misinformation about guns while knowing exactly zero about that which they speak.  Case in point.

4) No.  Gun violence is NOT a serious problem in the US. Criminals that abuse guns and harm others are the serious problem.  As are doctors who cut off limbs and take out the wrong vital organs and kill patients are a serious problem.  Neither the scalpel nor the gun are to blame.

You may not hate guns (hopefully you don't currently own any).  But you are woefully ignorant as to the facts about guns, based on this one post.  If you'd like to learn more, I will gladly offer my services (for free) and train you to become a responsible owner.

Damn you got em. They do not know what they speak on the subject they are trying to argue about, but they just want to spout off lies that they heard about but don't know for sure.

I have called them out on another post because he wants to spout something off without knowing anything.

Thank you for your support.

To be fair, gun shows USED to be (circa 20+ years ago?) a venue for quwarionable gun sales.  I recently attended one, and in the interest of seeing what all the hubbub was about, tried to purchase guns from about 5 different vendors "improperly"... using a fake name, an out-of-state drivers license, saying I was buying it as a gift for someone else.  I was rejected by all 5 sellers.  The one dealer with whom I was using an out-of-state DL offered to look up a FFL local to my residence and ship it to them for a fee, but I still had to go thru the background check and all that went with it.  No way was I walking out of the show with a gun that day.

Yeah that eventually faded away at gun shows and after Sandy Hook pretty much no Gun Show dealer will sell ANY firearm without a background check at all. This is because if they do and that person does something with that firearm they can be held liable as well, and nobody is going to risk going to jail for some jo-blow on the street.

I have 5 firearms in my house from a Semi-Automatic "Assault Weapon" to a shotgun, and none of my guns has gone out here to kill anyone. I also make sure to teach my children firearm safety so that there are no accidents at all and that they know they are not toys. Heck, I think my 4 year old is more knowledgeable than JoeandChristy on firearms.

I was taught firearm safety at home at a young age. I played with toy guns too and knew the difference. Real guns aren't toys.

That is my point. A good family will teach their children firearm safety so that they don't just go "look a cool toy gun" and end up killing someone. Even my 4 year old know it ain't no toy and not to mess with it.

That's your child but what about when he has a friend come over and having less valuable knowledge finds it, thinks it's a toy and shoots your child, your wife, or you? It should not be where your four year old has access to it to ignore.

You think I don't have protection against that? I ain't no idiot here. My gun is out up but easy to get to in case of emergency, and it's in a case that a four year old doesn't know how to use and it has to be cock3d before it's fully loaded, and yes I tried. Sorry to disappoint you but my pistol stays condition 3 at all times.

This is merely a convenient argument to try and restrict an explicit Constitutional freedom.

If the left cared that much about violence and violent crimes:

- They wouldn't be advocating and celebrating attacking people who offend and disagree with them.

- They wouldn't be focusing so much on blacks being victims under the premise of white cops, instead focusing on the over 90% of cases where its other blacks, and advocate blacks stop acting violently..

- They'd stop supporting organizations that likewise advocate violent crime, such as BLM and Antifa.

They can demonize and conveniently hyperfocus on guns all they like, but when they are advocates of violence upon others, they lost the moral high ground, and no one should be listening to them talk about their problems with violence, whether it be with guns or anything else.

This is why I am convinced that you dont read posts before quoting them and responding to points that exist only in your head. The demonization and hyper focus is on terrorist attacks while simultaneously dismissing the much larger gun carnage because of the precious Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. If you like the risk, fine, but realize that dismissing the danger inherent in firearm ownership is really not a very good idea.
