Congratulations! I got approved on 8/7 and received the green card on 8/12 so you never know, it might turn up tomorrow....

I went this week to update my SSN, you'll need passport and green card, and also to fill out the SSN form again for replacement card. Was in and out in 5 minutes

Congrats to you as well! My wife just received her green card today!! Finally:D

She already filled out the new SSN form and she will bring her passport, green card, I-485 approval letter, and birth certificate just in case.

Did you get a new SSN or the they just updated the info with the same SSN?

I brought my greencard and the form you need to fill out. That was it, took less than 2 minutes and the new SSN card arrived after 4 days.

Wait, does your SSN change once you get a green card?

It's good to inform them that you are now a legal permanent resident. Also, they remove the text on the SS card that says "only valid for work with DHS authorization", your SSN won't have any restrictions anymore if you go back to the SSA and update it after you get your greencard.

Your SSN does NOT change, no. You just receive a new card without that text on it.

You will have the same SSN for the rest of your life. It's only the text on the card that changes, and they add your new info in the system (that you are now a legal permanent resident).
