I met someone from Fiji, 2 months ago. We've been talking every single day, by phone and video chat. I'm hesitant about it working, but every day he surprises me with being a genuine person and remembering the little things.

He's 26, works at a resort( same for past 3 years), he doesn't have enough $ to self sponsor, and I don't have a problem self sponsoring him.  This would be his first passport issuance.

I would like him to come visit in December for a month, and we have plans for me to visit in February.

I am a teacher, have assets, own my own house, but I'm not sure how to convey that I plan on him returning, so it's not a risk.

I hear that the chances of any visa or sponsorship are slim and none.

That being said, what's my best bet for helping him, with higher success?

I'd rather not do a K-1 now as I'd like to see how he fits in and feels being in my city. Is this my only option?

There is no such thing as sponsoring a tourist visa. Invitation letter wouldn't help either. He would have to apply on his own merits and be able to show strong ties to his home country or current permanent residence.

Maybe meet in a third country, somewhere in the middle for the both of you?

K-1 is not for people to "have a feel" of anything or anywhere :( It's for people who intend to marry each other, and have the ability to do so legally.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

As a 2.6. y.o. without a house or grest career, he doesn't have the way of showing he wouldn't overstay. And the cost to only travel for 1 week, wouldn't be worth it.

I get why this is hard, but what's the use of the I-134 document then?

That's what a sponsorship is.

I-134 is for immigrant visa(s). Tourist visa, everything is all on the applicant itself, financials or not. I am sorry, it is what it is and he will likely be denied if he could not prove his strong ties that he does not have plans to abandon and that he could afford the trip. Hence my suggestion of meeting elsewhere. Or you can go to Fiji.

I would go to Fiji as well no brainer.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
