Hi all,

I filed jointly for the I-751 a few weeks ago, got my green card extension letter and I went through my biometrics appointment. Unfortunately, during the past few months, I was going through a really difficult time with my husband, who is the US citizen. We're a young couple, we've been married for 2 and a half years, and we had a very good marriage up until recently, and everything was legitimate. I just feel as though we had gotten married very young, and we didn't actually get to know who we truly were as people, and things just weren't going as well as they could be. There was no physical/emotional abuse, nothing really bad had happened, I just know that things won't work out in the long run between the two of us. With that, I felt as though it's best to get divorced now before we have any kids and we've been living with his in-laws, so we don't have a house with a mortgage. I know a lot of people might suggest trying to wait things out until the green card gets approved, but things are just way past being able to fix things and we're both certain that we'll be getting a divorce.

We haven't started any paperwork yet for the divorce, but I know I have to move out of the house and start my own bank account, all of those things. I guess I'm just concerned as to what this means for the I-751, and going forward. I've tried doing as much research, but often times I see it's the US citizen that wants a divorce, and not the immigrant, or divorces were due to spouses being unfaithful or abuse. I haven't quite found a forum post similar to my situation, so I'm a little worried on what to do and what to expect. I know for certain that our marriage was real, and all I hope is that the USCIS can see that, because I know for sure that I didn't come here just wanting a green card. I just don't know what to do if we have to go for an interview, or what to do with divorce papers when it comes to this, and what to do if my green card gets accepted without any problems or an interview.

I feel like there are so many questions that I have in regards to what to do going forward, but this is my main concern at the moment. Hoping there are people that can relate.

Hi. We are basically in the same situation right now. The only difference is I just file the divorce the other day. I am currently in the process of gathering all the paperwork just case I will get the interview date soon.
