Im in the process of filing for citizenship. Im hoping to mail my packet by next week Monday Aug 21, 2017. How long is the process till you recieve a notice of receipt from them and even the process for the whole thing? Sorry if this has been asked already.

Thank you

N400 processing time depends on the field office workload. San Fransisco is among the slower field offices. You're probably looking at 7-8 months from the receipt date to Oath. Browse monthly threads, identify other San Fransisco filers, and follow their timelines. Good luck!

After filing, if the application is received for processing it takes roughly 7-10 business days to get a receipt notice in the mail.

After that?  Speed of your case depends on your field office, amount of people ahead of you with earlier priority dates, any issues with your background check, any documents missing that you get RFEs for and have to send back which delays things, etc.

Good luck with your filing!

To apply for U.S. citizenship through naturalization online, you should:

  • Create a USCIS account. This will allow you to access the online Application for Naturalization (N-400).

  • Complete the online Application for Naturalization (N-400). You should provide as many responses as you can throughout the application.

  • Upload evidence. This includes images of the front and back of your Permanent Resident Card. Additional evidence will be requested based on the information you provide in the online application.

  • Review and sign. You will be able to provide a digital signature.

  • Pay and submit. We will send you to Pay.gov - our safe, secure payment website - to make your payment and submit your application online. Submitting your application online costs the same as mailing in a completed paper form.
