Hello,

my interview is in a few days in Italy.

i was wondering if they check LinkedIn accounts for marriage based green card to verify employment history?

thank you

Wouldn't surprise me since they look up other social media sites such as Facebook.

That makes sense.

I was wondering because in all the forms I submitted, I copied and pasted exactly what it's written in my working contracts for employment history. But My LinkedIn profile is not that accurate and I definitely embellished my profile to make it more attractive lol

so I was wondering if that can cause me issues at the interview.

Probably not at a visa interview but maybe at a job interview lol.

I wonder if they really do when the FBI does the name check...and if they do get any sort of viable information since I can't imagine them making requests through Facebook to view the profile pages/activity of every single applicant that comes across their desk on a daily basis?  I can't imagine them relying on the internet for factual evidence to use against an applicant since (as the saying goes) you can't believe everything you read on the net.

For example---someone could make a blog or twitter post slandering a person for something they never did just to be vicious to a person they don't like...yet USCIS would read this and take it as true evidence towards a case?  I'm not arguing with you over whether they CAN access Facebook or other means to garner info, just wondering if realistically they even bother with it for thousands of applicants.

I'm trying to imagine a situation where someone goes for their interview and the IO says "well, we found an old blog post about you from someone saying you once lied about such-and-such because they were there too and blah blah blah..."

Or is it more just a case of if the applicant becomes a "special person of interest" somewhere along the process, then they do that?

They don't check everyone but they do check some. Just search the forum. When I was doing my K1 there was a couple who got in trouble for what they posted on Facebook. I don't remember details but I think it was something along the lines of them posting engagement ceremony photos that the embassy interpreted as wedding photos and they were denied.

But yes, you probably have to catch their attention in some way first before they do it. Doubt they have the resources to check every single applicant but wouldn't surprise me if they did.

I guess I can see that...maybe where someone is married, and posts their relationship status as "single" on their Facebook.

Hmm...I'm married and just left that section blank.  Wonder if they check my FB during my background check and then think I'm not married because I chose just not to fill in that section and leave my profile blank for the most part lol

So you guys think that my embellished LinkedIn profile will create me issues to the interview? I'm also applying for a marriage based viso not an employment based visa, if that makes any difference.

No I don't think they care. The person hiring you might care.
