Google has canceled the domain registration for The Daily Stormer, a company spokesperson confirmed Monday.

“We are cancelling Daily Stormer’s registration with Google Domains for violating our terms of service,” the spokesperson told Business Insider.

Google didn't want its services used to incite violence, a source close to Google told Business Insider. Daily Stormer registered its domain with Google at 7:51 a.m. Pacific. Google canceled the registration at 11:02 a.m. Pacific, the source said.

Daily Stormer moved its domain registration to Google after it was canceled by GoDaddy on Monday. The white supremacist site published a story that denigrated Heather Heyer, the 32-year-old woman killed when a car rammed into counter-protesters in Charlottesville, VA over the weekend. The story, which attacked Heyer for her physical appearance and referred to her using various offensive epithets, prompted GoDaddy to give Daily Stormer 24 hours to find a new host for its domain.

Zoho, a company that provides enterprise computing services for companies, also said it was dropping Daily Stormer in a statement on Twitter.

In response to inquiries regarding The Daily Stormer's use of Zoho services (1/2)

We believe that The Daily Stormer has violated Zoho’s Terms of Service, so its access to Zoho’s services has been terminated. (2/2)

I'm not exactly internet savvy...

While they look for somewhere else to host their domain, and while the website is temporarily "offline"....can someone else purchase their original domain name so that they can't ever have it back?

That's in the hands of ICANN at that point, but any reputable domain registrar will hold the domain and give them a chance to move it out, because simply cancelling the domain makes it available for anyone to register, though Stormfront would have a claim against anyone who registers the domain, filing a dispute with ICANN. The latter of flat out dumping a domain is an extremely harsh method usually reserved for patent/trademark infringement.

It's very unlikely Stormfront will have any issue finding another registrar, and they can even host their own server if they can't rent a server/rackspace (to point their registrar DNS settings toward). Sufficed to say, deleting a domain because they do things one doesn't like politically is very draconian. While it's expected of GoDaddy (they have a pretty terrible reputation), Google jumping on board doesn't help their reputability -- now someone has to concern themselves with the concept that if someone whines that their site is racist Google will cancel their domain. Not smart business ethics. It would make me think twice about using Google that's for sure. And since Google is relatively new to being a registrar.. it's not like I'd be missing out.

The question isn't whether or not Stormfront is ethical. We know they aren't.

2/10 for the attempt though.
