She ended up going to the Korean Embassy in Manila and they knew what she needed.  Attempting it online was a joke.  Go to the Embassy and it took about a week I believe.  She filled out a form and was only in the Embassy for about 15 minutes.  It only took 5 minutes to pick it up when it was ready.  It was very easy.  It is just the Police Certificate required for immigration.  They only have a few types so once you tell them what you are doing they give you the proper paperwork.  You can even pick it up to fill out at home and return it to the embassy after you finish it.

I may even have a blank copy that she took pics of and sent to me.

Ok, that's really helpful to know. Our issue is that there are two types of police certs--one you get while physically in Korea, and then one you can get from an embassy. I've seen conflicting stories about which type is required by NVC/US embassy, but we were thinking that the police cert he gets from the S Korean embassy in Dublin should *hopefully* be sufficient.

My husband called the SK embassy in Dublin today, and they said the whole process should take about 3 weeks and they seemed helpful, but we'll see. Did you also have to get the S Korean police cert translated?

Thanks!

This is what we got from the Korean Embassy.  The paperwork they gave us already had an English translation.  We did not have to translate anything and the US Embassy looked it over and said it was fine.

We also got Rose's Irish paperwork and it did take a while.  I think most of that wait was the poor postal service in the Philippines.

NVC nor the embassy would require the certificate that can only be obtained in person.

That's honestly my opinion, it would be incredibly arbitrary if they did, considering the DOS site lists "alternate documents" and how to obtain the police cert from the local embassy. Just trying to be over prepared, you know?

NVC accepts photocopies, even for documents where originals are required (they state you must present the originals during the interview)   Unless they specifically state ORIGINALS copies are fine.

I understand NVC accepts copies, but I'm still at the point of obtaining an original police certificate (debating which type required). But I think you two have answered my question, and we'll go the S Korean embassy route to get the police certificate. Copies for NVC, copies and originals for interview.

PERFECT!  Make sure you only let them keep copies.  We lost a few originals (birth certs, police reports) when we were denied.  We can't get them back so we are in the process of getting new ones now.

Yes, I've seen other posters say that they've lost originals in through the interview. Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear you were denied!! Hopefully you get through the process again quickly!

We are married now and are in the process of filing the CR-1.  All is well. This was probably better all around. We had a beautiful wedding with her family there to enjoy it.
