July 7th 2017 My husband was finger printed etc. at his bio metrics appointment. Than eventually he checked his case status on the USCIS site and his status now says:

(Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview)

As of July 26th 2017, we are ready to schedule your form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number *************, for an interview. We will schedule your interview and send you a notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you move go to www..etc.

It's now August 14th 2017. My question is How long does it take them to send us the instructions in the mail for the interview? When will we know when the interview is? Is it normal for them to take a few weeks to send something to us in the mail even though they already updated his status on the website? Is there a number I can call that I can know if they decided on an interview date already and just forgot to send us a letter in the mail?

Could be several months before you hear something. I found that you will normally see a change on the website about 10 days before you see a letter. I don't know when you filed but check the processing times at the top of this page to get a rough estimate for the whole process.

It's been more than 10 days. That's why I'm worried :(

My case has been stuck on "Ready to be scheduled for interview" for nearly 5 months. Many other people are stuck on this for months too. It is perfectly normal.

AOS can take 6-18 months. Patience :)

Oh, So that change of status message on the USCIS site doesn't mean that they already decided on the interview date?

It will often stay at this stage for months, let alone weeks. You have nothing to worry about :) Also, just because it says it's ready to schedule for interview does not necessarily mean you'll have one. Many people will find after several months of waiting that their status has changed to say that their Green Card is in production without ever actually having an interview.

That's good to hear that it's normal. I really get worked up on these things lol. Wow 18 months. I will tell my husband to stop checking the mail everyday. I honestly was afraid that we didn't receive mail or something, because everything else has come fast for us.

I hope that's the case...that he doesn't actually need an interview, because he doesn't even speak English yet. He's still working on it.

Typically you can bring a third-party translator to the interview if needed.

If you look at many of AOS case filers from earlier this year and even late last year, people are still waiting on Interviews and green cards etc.

Checking the mail everyday will just drive you crazy. It'll arrive when it arrives.

It's also worth noting due to the new administration (Trump) many people who were here without their paperwork in Order all filed early this year, hence more backlogs than usual.
