Guys! I have a question to some US citizens here on this thread. My fiance's name is Scott Anthony Lane but the name written on his US passport is Scotty Anthony Lane. I asked him why did the agency put Scotty on your passport and he said the lady at the passport agency ask me which name I want to put in if Scott or Scotty, I asked her if its ok and she said yes thered be no problem. Its just the same name, so I said okay just put Scotty since  other people call him that way too. Idk even when he said its ok it still worries me. We put Scott Anthony in all our paperworks for this petition. Do you think it will matter? Is it really okay in America? I mean, cos in the Philippines whatever name is written in your passport should always be the exact same name you will have to put in every paperworks or Id's.

I think he should get another passport. In the US it is the same way. Maybe he could complain and get the fee waived to get a new passport.

Though it might not matter for getting a K1.

His passport is expiring this october and he's getting a new passport for renewal. He will personally drive to the passport agency in Seattle to have it fixed at the same time. Is it really the same way in the US?

Here in Tennessee it occasionally happens that Bill is Billy on his drivers license or James is Jimmy. (I work at a hotel, front desk, so I often see Billy on the DL but Bill on the credit card or the other way around) You could quote Scotty on the forms though, like Scott "Scotty" Anthony Lane.

The Philippines is very strict about naming.  The USA is less so.  I have IDs and Credit Cards and buy plane tickets under all of my names (I go by middle name, legally I sign first initial and middle name).  For a petition filed in the USA it won't be as critical as it would be in the Philippines.  Just that difference in naming shouldn't cause any issues.  I say shouldn't because it's always possible one individual could have a hang up.  But more than likely it'll fly through with nobody really questioning it.
