The chances of you making it here by Christmas are highly unlikely though not impossible. If you submit your documents next week and if NVC does take up to 11 weeks to review your 11 weeks will be completed mid November. And then hopefully it doesn't take too long for your embassy to schedule your appointment.

I really hope i make it back before the year ends.

Please be aware that if you get a checklist, it resets the "NVC clock"........and it will cause a delay up to 11 more weeks.  Unfortunately, I speak from experience...

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

If there is no checklist then its possible to be back by then?

I do not think so. Even if NVC get your documents Aug 15, the soonest NVC approval will be November 1 or so. Add at least 1 month to know the interview date which is December. And because of holidays it's unlikely that you will get your visa by December 25 because they schedule interviews in 30-40 days prior to the actual interview.

You can refer to this spreadsheet created by @JBMG to see how long it has taken people from Hungary to get their appointment date after Case Complete.

So do I! Hence I like to make people aware that there are chances of getting checklists and the clock resets to 11 weeks so that their hopes are not shattered.

You definitely won't be here for Christmas. I'd plan for March the soonest date.

March? I feel like thats a little exaggerated. I dont mean any thing rude or disrespectful, but honesty.

Hi, here is my timeline.. It's possible to get your visa within 4-5 months from when your 130 was approved. I'm still waiting for the embassy to send the visa.. So we're about 4.5 months into it.. BUT the NVC is processing faster for mail filers.. Around 8 weeks on average but some countries getting processed at 6 weeks!! Ours took 55 days (7.86 weeks).

3/29/2017 i130 approved
4/5/2017 USCIS mailed to NVC
4/11/2017 NVC assigned case number
4/12/2017 Filled out the ds-261
4/14/2017 PAID AOS fee
4/18/2017 - Received Welcome Letter (via email)
- Called NVC to approve DS261
- Paid IV fee

4/19/2017 Mailed out Supporting documents
4/24/2017 USPS Tracking confirmed that NVC received documents
4/25/2017 NVC confirmed receipt, scan date
4/26/2017 submitted the 260 - 11 weeks starts today
6/20/2017 CEAC status changed to "AT NVC" /AOS info gone - Confirmed CC on the phone
6/22/2017 Received CKLST COVER LETTER
6/27/2017 Received CC letter
6/28/2017 Called NVC, received Interview date - Aug 2
6/29/2017 Reserved Medical Appointment
6/30/2017 Received Interview Confirmation Letter (p4)
7/6/2017 Received Interview Confirmation Letter (p4) AGAIN.

CEAC Status changed to "in transit"

AOS is back and now says in upper right-hand corner
YOUR CASE IS CURRENTLY AT: PARIS (used to say NVC)

7/10/2017 CEAC Status changed to "Ready" (this means, my file has arrived at the Embassy)
8/2/2017 CEAC Status still "Ready" (But date changed to 8/2/2017, the day of the interview)
8/3/2017 CEAC Status still "Ready" (But date changed to 8/3/2017)
8/7/2017 CEAC Status "Adminstrative Processing" (Date changed (case last updated) to 8/7/2017) 11:35 AM
8/7/2017 CEAC Status "ISSUED" 9:00 PM

Meanwhile, you can gather all of your paperwork.

Is calling NVC for interview date supposed to speed up the process of getting a date?

Or did you just get lucky by getting an interview date so fast?

---

Also for the original poster: Like JBMG said, I also got case complete after my last scan date i 6 weeks as opposed to 11, so hopefully yours won't take the full 11 weeks either!

You can not call NVC to "speed up the process"......NVC waits until they receive the available dates from the consulate...then they assign them.  There is no free lunch....you just have to wait like everyone else.

In our case, we received the "NVC has everything.  You are in the queue for an interview" email on April 10, 2017.  We then received the NVC email indicating the interview date on April 15, 2017.......Interview date listed  was May 2, 2017.

From my understanding there's usually a delay between when they complete your case and when you get notified of the CC by email (for me that took only 2 days but I think it can be a bit longer too).

However, I wouldn't worry about missing your interview date because the CC email doesn't have your interview date in it. They just let you know that they'll send you another email later when they have a date for you...
