Hi All,

I had applied for my Florida State license when I received my EAD and SSN. I received it no problem but because I didn't have my Green card at the time, "TEMPORARY" was printed in red on the bottom right corner of the card and the expiry date was for 1 year instead of 4.

So I have a couple of questions regarding this.

1. Now that I have my Green card (conditional) will my drivers license be issued for 4 years when I renew it, or will it be issued for the expiry of my Green card (2019)? Will I only get a 4 year driver's license when my conditions are removed and I receive my 10 year Green card? Will the 'TEMPORARY" be removed now that i have a GC?

2. Will I have to pay again seeing as I was not issued with the full expiry date?

3. Will I have to take my photo again or will it be transferred to the new license?

Do anyone have experience with this?

Thanks

Hi there

1. Yes, when you have a green card, even conditional 2 year one, the state of Florida issues a drivers license at full validity, which is 8 year, not four. And yes, the word TEMPORARY will be removed.

2. Yes you will have to pay the full fee again.

3. You will have to take a brand new photo.

I have many many years experience with the Florida DMV unfortunately.  I finally got a permanent 8 year driver's license after my green card was mailed to me. But before that, I had one year licenses since 2007.. Before they were better, they used to give them for two years. But in 2010, they changed them to one year which sucked.

Thank you so much!!!!!! I don't know why I thought it was 4 years. 8 years is even better! Thanks for answering all my q's!

You're welcome. Good luck and welcome to Florida (and America for that matter lol)
