Update on my case - received my case number last Friday and finished paying both fees yesterday. Now waiting on them to open up the visa application form. Like @ms_bobdog said once you receive the case number rest of the process seems pretty smooth.

I thought India was non-pivot. May be it depends on which consulate you are. Have you tried calling to NVC to find out if yours is pivot or not?

can someone explain to me what a pivot case is? NVC got our case March 13th so we're nearly at 8 weeks now.

Pivot case means electronic processing at NVC. Instead of sending hardcopy mail of your documents, you either scan and upload to the CEAC website or through email. When you get your case number and welcome letter, you will know.

Ok guys. I have a few questions that I need some answers to. My passport expires on May 2019, Visa expires July 2025. I don’t change my last name to my husband last name as yet. What happen if my interview comes before my passport expire date ?  And what if I get a new passport with my husband last name will the visiting visa still valid? I’m a bit worried. Thanks

I just find a old thread about my questions.   Someone says you can bring up the name change at the GC interview. I really don’t want to renew my passport yet with my husband last name until I get my GC because it might Cause confusion with my visiting visa.

I don't think there is an issue with the last name... in my culture, very few women change their last names. If it comes up I will just say it is because I have quite a few professional certificates and other associations which will lead to some hassle if I were to suddenly change my name, and of course, my husband and I share almost the same name (difference of one letter only) so it will be really confusing.

If you get a new passport with your husband's last name, it shouldn't be an issue. I have read of people carrying a copy of their marriage certificate around.

Did anyone notice the page for Step 6: submitting documents to the NVC has changed? There used to be a method where we can do either email submission or mail submission for some case numbers. Now it's gone.

They have removed the list of embassy codes that do electronic submission because they are in the process of adding more. It has been like this for a couple of months at least, so there is really no way to know till you get your welcome letter :)

I just checked a couple days ago where certain embassy codes (e.g., GUZ) and immigration types (ir5) were allowed to choose either emailing or mailing the documents. I remember there was a table on the page where you can look up by embassy code and immigration type. They must have changed the page very recently. Or I have a very bad memory???:(

Either way, they are in the process of making changes so you just have to wait to find out :D Nothing in this whole process really surprises me very much anymore!
