Hello All,

I made a dumb mistake in my N-400. For two of my trips outside the US, I listed incorrect return dates. The dates are off by one day. So far example if I returned on June 15th, I have listed June 14th.  I relied on my past itineraries for dates and merely filled out the dates I caught the flight. I forgot to take into account the fact that by the time the plane landed into the US, the dates would have moved by one day. Dumb me! I know I will get an opportunity to correct the mistake during the interview but will these mistake cause any delay? Since I filed my application online I was wondering if I can upload a letter in the additional evidence section explaining the discrepancy and list the correct dates. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

That won;t b a problem, unless you are very close to the cut off for time abroad

No worries, as you said it will only set off your dates by a couple of days---print off a new page and fill out the amended travel dates to bring to your interview and replace the incorrect one (the IO will appreciate you doing this instead of him having to write everything out himself again).

Most of my travel dates were approximations (I mentioned this on the application and filed online too)...now that I have the actual travel dates through FOIA searches, I plan on doing the same thing at my interview to make it easier on the IO.

And actually?  You may have been correct on how you listed them---as the actual travel dates (the day you exit and return to US soil) are not supposed to be counted as time outside the US because they are not full 24 hours.

Thank you for your response! I think you are correct about not counting the date you returned as the time outside the US as it wouldn't be full 24 hours. But that would only factor in the "Total Days Outside the United States" column. My mistake was in the "Date You Returned to the United States" column in which I was supposed to list the actual return date. As I filed online, total days was automatically calculated for me.

Off by one or two days, USCIS won't really make a fuss about as you obviously made a good faith attempt to list the actual travel dates.  They only closely look at travel dates if a) you are very close to the limit  or b) they discover through their own databases that you neglected to mention a trip took altogether.
