i-130 How long will my I-130 application take.

Hello, Ive been viewing this site for about a year now. Currently my stepmom filed a I-130 for me. It was corrected with a grammatical error since last year august. I'm over 21 and from the Bahamas. I'm wondering how long would the process take. There is an lawyer involved for a petition. I have minor knowledge about this process but I heard wait times can be up to 7+ years for some countries.

 

I fit under the F2B category

Can someone give me an answer as it results to this?

Under F2A it would only be a wait of around two years, but you may age-out into F2B, which would instead be a wait of around seven years.

For single over 21 it should be 7 years. 

 

You should ask for your "priority date" since with that date people can give you a better idea.

have anyone ever had a less wait time than 7 years in the F2B category? 7 years is a lot of time to just wait for a interview.

No. That's the current wait time prescribed by law.

If they had applied before you turned 21 it would had been a 1 year wait. 

 

The long wait is because you are considered an adult. If you get married at any point the time will go up to 14 years.

wow. I'll see if i can make contact with my stepmom and dad regarding the Lawyer. They made this process seem like it was a quick process. My younger brother already got his green card because hes under 21.

 

Application was filed : 06/07/2016

Application was corrected : 08/10/2016

Letter was received : 08/23/2016

 

I am becoming hopeless knowing that my chances of moving to America may not happen until im in my 30s. Currently Im 23 and had plans on continuing school. Anyone got advice? I returned from Ontario Earlier this year hoping this application would come into affect and now im on standby.

The processing times make no difference because even if the I-130 was approved tomorrow, your priority date still wouldn't be current.

Currently, applications filed on or before 1st November 2010 are being processed under F2B. Hence the wait time of roughly another six years or so to get to you.

what a bummer man, no marriage, no kids, until this is approved.

so is it safe for me to reapply and continue school in canada, the us or elsewhere while this wait happens?
